So I'm one war away from 1000 stars & the 2000 bonus crowns..

Notre Dame is one less building for the enemy to destroy in wars, so should I replace it?

I'm Global age lvl 176 & play as the Brits.

Thoughts?

All other are good choices. Maybe terra cotta is slightly less interesting.

It seems to me that if your focus is on war you need to take:

- Acropolis (must have)
- Forbidden City (defensive) or Colosseum (offensive)
- Versailles
- Brandenburg Gate

Anything else just makes you weaker. Notre Dame is indeed a particularly bad war choice because it doesn´t need to be destroyed at all.

I use S o L rather than Brandenburg gate as I don't use factory troops, but love my aircraft.

Well if you have it, might as well as keep it. If you managed to keep it till GA, might as well as keep it till AA. Higher age is where notre dame shines the most I would assume.

I also don't really use factory troops, but I'm still building Brandenburg Gate because of blitzkrieg. That alone is, in my opinion, more valuable than any aircraft boost.

I see where you're coming from; but a one tactic per day is better than a huge perminant boost to a game changing unit?

SoL is amazing and I've never heard of someone switching it out after trying it, especially if you don't use factory troops.

The thing is, one tactic per day means you have it available for every war attack. Like I said in my first post, the wonders I listed are for if your focus is on war. This is also the reason Colosseum is a viable wonder, you get Strength of the Gladiator for every war attack.

I agree. I have ND on all my accounts. Although it is one less building to destroy, it offers significant savings in troop upgrades and researching library tech.

If you play a lot, Notre Dame is useless as you can always get the resources.

Side question: Are most players in agreement with Versailles being more effective for defence and war than Angkor Wat? I'm using Acropolis, Colosseum, and Angkor however have thought about changing if advantageous.

I love the discount on generals, notre dame stacks with the library discount on generals for something like 21% off on them.

There is no library discount on general upgrades. The library research is for the cost of activating more than 1 general at a time. The only research available to reduce general upgrade cost is buried deep in the university research tree.

This is a common mistake. Don't be fooled into spending 110k oil on a research that will take years to pay for itself.

Once you are in IA the critical factor for research is the time it takes, not the cost if you play a bit. So Notre Dame becomes pointless. It's great at the start of an age, and may mean you need one less mill to get your siege upgrade going in the armory. But once a general takes 2 days to upgrade anyway even the oil is easy enough to get for that.

Ah, it says training cost. I mistook it for upgrade cost. That's a shame.

I dare to say it's the single best wonder in the game. Once you start spending 200k of oil on general or airplanes upgrades, you'll be sorry you don't have it. I had it and I swapped it for Colosseum in late global age to help offensively in wars. But if you don't war non-stop, keep it.

I did switch from SoL to BG the moment SAMs were introduced. Add really poor AI on top and survival rate drops. And while airplanes are great at killing tanks, Blitzkrieg allows me not to deal with tanks at all.

I like Notre Dame just fine personally, none of the other wonders from that age hold much appeal. Once all the oil upgrades kick in it saves a ton of frustration.

Plus, as a fairly large building the AI must go around, it's a decent obstacle to path the enemy into killzones or slow down tanks and cavalry. Perhaps I'll change my tune if there's a final age and I ever manage to get to it. I suppose it depends on whether wars are one's main focus or not, and whether one is trying to max their generals, airstrip, and factory troops. Two attacks or a few defenses every 48ish hours isn't worth the hundreds of thousands of oil I'd have to tediously grind and defend from IA upwards. Not at this point anyway.

Your mileage may vary.

Mine was done purely for war. I went from being 5* first hit to being able to hold out for a good few attacks with FC. That means I can prioritize other things for my workers. But the infinite possible differences is what makes the game more fun.

Depends on your priority, Norte dame is a wonderful wonder that I kept for over a year now. It is a goddamn obstacle blocker that enemy has to go around with so place it with two barb wires on the side will literally make a trop splitting killing zone.
