Troops not returning after surviving battle

after attacking, I could have an entire army still alive and yet they all disappear when the battle is over rather than returning home

if you defeat all of enemy defense building (tower, defend bunker, artilery....) then you main army will back to town. Except the soilder from Mercenary; they will disappear after joining a battle.
