What's your most successful raiding setup with a troop size of 40 or morefor the classical age? I had been using all heavy horse riders , it worked in Iron Age but now that I'm in classical it's not working anymore.

As a Roman, I'm using 2 heavy horses, like 14 archers and the rest (like 40) legions.

Works good, I target bases with loots that I can get around 60k-100k of each resource.

I just started taking the horses to try them out, they seem fine but need more testing.
Before that I just took like 75%-80% of Legions and the rest archers. like 55 and 16 for example. I was targeting the same caliber of loot with that composition.

Good luck :)

I used to use a mix of horse, knight, legion, but I recently changed to an archer/legion combination - perhaps with a wall miner if you really have too. It's cheap to re-charge and fast to re-charge (without the miner) and target same level or lower bases it works well. Not sure if it'd work with only 40 in total, but still worth a try.

If you have archers left over at the end, reduce down till you're just supporting the legions.

My army limit is 55 just now.
I use 4 heavy horsemen to take care of defensive structures (preferably one at a time)
10 longbowmen for support against garrison troops
1 wall miner to select where I want to breach for optimum effect
the rest: phalanxes (about 14 or so)

works ok, but if I'm up against ballistae that are well placed, I'm screwed.

I use like 20 archers and the rest (51) heavy legion. Absolutely destroys any base I decide to attack

Im running 28 legion 10 archers right now and almost always get my archers back. I normally go in on Garrisons with legions 1st then 5 archers behind on both then its a sweep afterwards.

I am doing 15 Archers, 2 heavy horse units, and 44 heavy legions. I win most but also lose some even still not long to make them again.

Great results right now with 4 horseman , 10 archers , 16 samurai . Usually take out city with over 1 minute left

Ah snap I'm still Iron Age, my apologies for not reading the title fully. Regardless I don't think my attack comp will change. 5 archers per Garrison, since classical will have a 3rd I'll up archers to 15 then rest basic infantry.

That's fine it really doesn't matter the age. The ballistae and catapult are army killers so alway eliminate them first then the mixes are really changeable.

Trying 2/3 Horsemen as meat shields for my Legions atm. It's actually working EXTREMELY well. With them standing there infront of the def going ''how u doing'' the legions are wiping everything out unhindered. currently using 3 horsemen 21 legions 10 archers and I think i found my comp. I especially enjoy when a catapult is hitting a horseman while ignoring a huge group of Legions lol

As the Romans with 66 army capacity: I've been going 15 heavy legions and 7 archers per barracks. I focus more on resources than medals so it works for me. Pop the legions and if any defenders show up before I take out their buildings then I'll drop the archers.

I have had consistent success with it, usually aiming at opponents with 50-200k resources and low-medium level defenses.

With 55 army (15 samurai 15 archers 4 raiders 2 cataphract). Most attackers don't bother with cataphract because they cost too much space and get wiped out in one shot by ballistas (your cataphract AI will head straight to the nearest ballista if it finds one nearby). Cataphract only army is great against pre-classic town though. Just drop your samurai down near any walls/infrastructure and watch it get demolished fast. Be careful of defensive tower / calvary because samurai are fragile troops. Destroy any watch tower or catapult nearby with archers. Only deploy your cataphract when the ballista is destroyed.

Oh - another very important tip - Elephants or Nights. I buy one of these wtih resources for each raid. I don't use anythign else - Elephants are the best, and go for defensive buildings first - they rule.

What medal count are some of you at, while raiding with these army compositions? Or are you noticing it doesn't effect it too much?

I tend to roam between 400 and 700. Get up high, then drop back down to 400 in one go, and work my way back up. It's surprising how many very heavy dudes are all the way from 200 right up to 800 - there's a huge mix of people that are "steamrolling zergs" as someone put it, and players who have pushed their medal count up well above their means to defend it!!

It's a funny old mix, and I am constantly surprised by it! Today I found a level 56 player in GP age, kitted out, with both wonders built, started on canons and mortars.... with no walls. I mean, they didn't have any freaking walls in their base?!?

I love this game. Heh. Needless to say... he died.

This made me chuckle. Probably someone who bought crowns with real life cash. Paying to win doesn't make you any less of a noob. Haha.

Andy, are you still using legions and archers with 1 wall miner for farming?, or are you using Horseman too?
I just arrived to Medieval Age and I was wondering which is the best way to go.

Something to consider: I do like taking elephants with my mercs but I don't like to depend on those all the time, I try to use them on tough bases only.

In terms of loot per minute, I will use 6 cataphracts, 4 cavalry raider, 10 Elite Chu Ko Nu, and 7 Phalanx. Of course I am Chinese. I only pick weaker opponents with poor layout, so I can minimize the casualty, and get more than 10K gold.

If I can't play constantly, I will use 1 wallminer, and all cavalry raiders. I will attack a higher level player with more than 100K resources and expect to lose all troops.

Either way works for me so far.
