Why can't we control air units better and where they attack from?

I've always wondered this, but now since the new update, it really seems like zeppelins go out of their way to fly over towers and take the LONG way over bases. It's frustrating that I can't just tap and swipe on an area where I want my air unit to spawn, like I do my troops.

I swear my bi-planes were trying to write HELP ME in the sky over a base once. I love this swiping idea. Sure would be great to direct them like that. Actually it would be nice to direct all troops like that to give the AI a needed rest. Perhaps and idea for a future tactic?
