What I do know:
(1) Resource purchases (gold, food): I have observed that value per crown goes up, the more resources you purchase at once. So you get more bang for your buck if you fill 100% resources at a time, vs. several smaller purchases of 10% or 50%.
(2) Rushing projects: I have observed that the value per crown goes up (in terms of time saved per crown), the longer you have to completion. So you get more bang for your buck if you only use crowns for the long projects.
What I don't know:
(1) Is it better to (A) instant complete a project, or (B) start a project using resources and then immediately rush it to completion? In (B) you are using less crowns for sure. But what if you use resources that you purchased?
(2) How are the crowns required to instant complete a project calculated? I have observed that cost in crowns changes depending on the amount of resources I have. If I have fewer than the needed resources the cost is higher in crowns, and as I gain resources (but still below required resources) the cost in crowns goes down a bit. So that makes me think that when I click on "instant compelete" the game must (A) execute a purchase of the needed resources to make up the gap for the project, plus the amount of resources to refill what I had originally. And then (B) rush the project to completion using the time calculation. If that is case, it means it is better to only instant complete large projects, in terms of maximizing the crown value.
