Best way to spend Crowns to maximize their value?

What I do know:

(1) Resource purchases (gold, food): I have observed that value per crown goes up, the more resources you purchase at once. So you get more bang for your buck if you fill 100% resources at a time, vs. several smaller purchases of 10% or 50%.

(2) Rushing projects: I have observed that the value per crown goes up (in terms of time saved per crown), the longer you have to completion. So you get more bang for your buck if you only use crowns for the long projects.

What I don't know:

(1) Is it better to (A) instant complete a project, or (B) start a project using resources and then immediately rush it to completion? In (B) you are using less crowns for sure. But what if you use resources that you purchased?

(2) How are the crowns required to instant complete a project calculated? I have observed that cost in crowns changes depending on the amount of resources I have. If I have fewer than the needed resources the cost is higher in crowns, and as I gain resources (but still below required resources) the cost in crowns goes down a bit. So that makes me think that when I click on "instant compelete" the game must (A) execute a purchase of the needed resources to make up the gap for the project, plus the amount of resources to refill what I had originally. And then (B) rush the project to completion using the time calculation. If that is case, it means it is better to only instant complete large projects, in terms of maximizing the crown value.

Well, the more you speed up at once, the more efficiently it goes, but after prices increase, it's not that efficient either.

I think it's efficient to speed up barracks upgrades, because it's annoying to play with less than two for the most of nations.

I am using crowns for certain resource/workers time management. E.g. When I collected a lot of resources I may speed up 1-4 hours to spend them or when upgrades are finished late at night and I don't want my workers waste all their night time.

I give my workers some R&R, they work faster the next day - 6 are this moment water-skiing behind the League Boat :)

These lazy bastards live by two in luxurious IA houses having awesome roads, so they should work even at nights for that )))

Troop training speed-up with EA Training Blessing gets a lot of loot per crown spent - usually 2 crowns per barrack equals 500k nicked.

Other than that as Redgar, finishing upgrades early, usually last 30 minutes to get the workers to kill the bears and use up resources on a new upgrade - basically so I don't have to sit around for 10 minutes just waiting.

For most things the price curve steepens too quickly - everything under 1 hour should be 1 crown, then ramp up.

I used my Crowns to fix my wrong choice of Wonders. Other than that, I use them to speed-up completion of upgrades when there are buildings that will complete in the middle of the night.

Stonehenge is okay actually. Hanging gardens for the end game and acropolis for the mid game may be slightly better, but SH is the one you probably shouldn't change now
