i'm choosing between two weapons artifacts for tank play (french heavy cavalry).

1: tank 20% dps, fighter 15% dps (also: general 10% hp)
2: tank 20% hp, fighter 20% dps (also: general 10% dps, guerilla 20% hp)

i go back and forth; which should i upgrade?

i would choose the second since you really want them to last longer. Damage isn't an issue imho. They are already strong. But this is just my opinion

Defo number 2 - as land mines are the real killers of HTs - so the more HP the better

In terms of HP added to the battlefield versus HP removed, DPS is usually a better deal. After about 20 seconds, the DPS bonus will have removed as many HP from the base as the other bonus will have added HP to your tanks. On that basis I would choose the first one for MP and the second one if artifacts worked for wars where I use fighters and generals more.

For heavy tanks I would always take HP. Their dps is high enough that they are often overkilling in one shot (or far overkilling on the second shot), and a boost to that wouldn't change much. But being able to survive a land mine with more HP left would really help.

2nd one for sure. For example, I’ll round out the number.

My mk7 has 6600 dps +20% = 7900 dps half that to generic damage.

On the other hand it has 40500hp+20%=49000 hp.

This is before ore any blessings. When it comes to heavy tanks big hitpoints is more advantageous than big damage because it so damn slow and it usually destroy anything in one blow anyways. On almost everything else I usually choose damage over hitpoints but tank the longer it stays alive the more damage it would do.

Number two. Tanks need more HP to better distract.. Wait, are we talking Heavy Tanks or Light Tanks?
