I've made some notes on game balance, the most of which are easy to make, but they'd bring a lot of value, imo.
Constructive comments are welcome.


Balance Notes

Matchmaking

Problems:
  • The most disturbing issue, when you can be attacked by enlightment in early medieval, it may look frustrating in motivation of upgrading your defense at all when you’re high in medals. I had 3 days in a raw attacked by enlightment age folks only.
  • Receiving medals punishes you by offering stronger opponents and attackers, while league reward is not compensating that
Solutions:
  • user level should play more important role in matchmaking formula and medals count multiplier should be decreased in offering stronger opponents or your base to stonger attackers
  • daily league rewards in crowns increased as a temporarily solution per each league upgrade
Complex League System Redesign

Problems:
  • not rewarding enough
  • no competitive goals based on resources for players
Solution:
  • Making a bronze, silver, gold, master league per each age
  • master leage contains top 200 players of each age only
  • getting in and out of master league becomes immidiately
  • bigger daily rewards in crowns growing per league type and age
  • sensitive bonus at the end of the season in crowns
  • special building at the end of the season (with upgrades) would start a bloody battle for medals
Farm Bases

Problems:
  • farm bases are boring and look like cheating in the game

Solutions:
  • shorter peace treaties if you lost fast
  • more resources lost/stored in the town center

Heavy Knights Rebalance
  • it looks like a broken/suicide unit in Medieval at least what decreases variety in gameplay
Solutions:
  • increase their attack on 25-50%
  • or decrease balista tower attack
Nations Buff
  • british 5% bonus to stolen resoures is too minor, I thought it should be +5% to 25% before I chose them
  • greeks might need shortening times in %
  • other nations besides rome and japan may need some buffs too or it's better to make all nations get some perks, so there is less complaints
Wonders Buff
  • buff economic wonders
  • buff 3rd generation of defensive wonders
Economy Buff

Problem:
  • economy might be bringing less than 10% of total income, what is some sort of imbalance
Solutions:
  • simple: increasing production numbers
  • innovative: the first 15 mins bonus, e.g. when the first 15 minutes of empty caravans/farms bring tripple amount of resources, so active players can get more out of them (free-to-win path)

Other imporvements
  • increase ‘protected’ time after closing the game (it happens due to disconnects, battery, etc) and in two minutes you can’t get back into the game for 5 minuts, because the system has you
  • Japanese/German unique troops might be broken in Classic Age
  • I have no Quests in Medieval for many days
  • shorten time for generals recovery twice (there was a nice improvement already, but the feature needs a little bit more buff to compensate upgrades)

I agree on a lot of this, but explain how farming bases look like cheating?

I agree with the league thing but it doesn't need to be more complicated than a massive buff to the rewards... i mean like 5-10x what we get now ( think i'm getting 5k in copper 1?)

Right now I take the 1-3 trade thing and pray it's not all diamonds.

Heavy Horsies need a buff in damage and maybe a little speed buff.
A charge attack for a little bonus dmg vs infantry would be cool and accurate. A charge of heavy horse was a thing to be feared back in the day.


I don't agree with every point here but I don't disagree strongly enough to refute anything right now.

Regarding Farm-bases, I just think they kinda worsen game experience, because you are supposed to defend the main building, so I'd add additional (resource-wise) motivation to defend it. No offense on cheating ;)
