Bastions, are they a new useless addition?

You can only fit towers or anti aircraft guns into them, offensive troops can shoot over them.
Whats the point of this feature?

They are awesome.

try things, watch replays, do friendlies with different configurations.

set up right these babies can slow and attack dead in its water, or protect oil pretty damn well.

You can't actually fit towers or anti-AA in these, only anti-tank guns or sniper towers. (or, less ideally, houses/oil buildings). It fits 2x2 tile buildings.

They are, however, by no means useless. Maxing 6 of these will grant a huge defensive asset to your base, basically like 6 more mini Versailles (minus the HP boost). It might work only on a smaller area but it is much more slowing down. Even lvl 1 slows down more (52%) than Versailles. Plus, they are additional walls.

A level 2 bastion is stronger than a level 11 wall and slows more than a level 6 barbwire, plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper and upgrades instantaneously. This is arguably one of the most useful additions to defense apart from the silo.

I would even say better than silo. Silo these days is basically just a nuisance, limiting your attacking strategies and nothing else. These things will bring some real spice to base design and its penetration.

Only if they fix the map edit bug! Still can’t place my TC in middle of my war base. Suggested work around don’t work. War starts in 2 hrs and nothing from CS.

Other than causing a horrible map edit bug, bastions are quite useful when used correctly. Getting a tank gun in there makes it pretty useful especially when HT are sent at it since they get slowed significantly. I wish the walls connected a little differently than only at the edges but it also makes sense. Have to be careful to connect the very ends to your walls and gates otherwise there’s a space there. It’s also nice because it essentially adds several more wall pieces in one item. Can’t add a pic atm but I use the typical rose valentine layout but I added the bastions to the center walls since that’s the typical way to attack them by avoiding the obviously trap corners.

Of course another feature of making your base more invincible than it already was! Not even an ICBM could harm our bases now, we can sit safe! Of course victories in battles become a privilege of the cheaters once again!

I ran into this also. This worked for me: pick up everything then build the center of the base before placing the first bastion. Once you place it, the center of the base is locked.

Thanks Cannibals. Will try. Much more help than I have gotten from CS.

There may be some technical reason this won't be true, but I look at them and think they are the most OP addition to the game since AR. The nerf of AR combined with the introduction of these is the biggest swing from offense to defense since the rebalance.

With 6 bastions, that is effectively 48 extra wall space at 68k HP each (plus boosts). Wall miners take a 25% penalty. And then they do up to an 82% slowdown as a trap after destruction, which is the part that is off the charts insane. More than a maxed out barbed wire, and with a bigger coverage area and effectively adding them in 6 new spots. Just having your troops walk across a base will take forever, forget destroying it along the way.

Yeah, the slow down effect is pretty crazy. I'm sure it'll be nerfed along the way. (How do you get 82% though? The stats posted in the other thread say 68% when maxed)

I don't think we have 100% accurate details yet, as the wiki says Bastion level 5 has 82% but that likely includes the university/library bonuses (wall bonuses affect the bastion and there are several of them); whereas wiki numbers should be base values (and assume no blessings/uni/library/museum/etc. are involved).

In any case, simply don't destroy the Bastion and you'll be fine; it does not need to be nerfed at this point.

Well, the smart use of them would be -forcing- you, or making it very likely that you destroy them in order to progress in the base. :p And in fact, putting anything in it and putting it in a central position pretty much does force you, except if you have an army of howitzers which shoot over the walls. But HTs/RPGs will fall for it everytime.

Yeah, the stats still seem like work in progress. Which Uni skill gives the boost to slow down? I only see they added Bastion to the Saladin Wall HP boost skill.

"Force" is a strong word as you can use planes too; or demolition (okay I'm kidding about demolition but maybe it's an option for early ages); but planes is a real option. Cannons + Zooks could make a comeback as it was a decent combination before AR was introduced, but we'll see. Some used attack helicopters too (I never did); another option. Lots of options ;)
