Best defense againts ballistas/Bombards???

So, I've noticed that Level 7 towers in Gunpowder age, are not enough to stop Bombards(GA/EA). Which brings me the following question, why the tower with its 7 range value cannot Hit the 5 range value bombards? I found this pretty annoying since its like theres no virtual use of my towers other than eliminating very few infantry.

Hello Eddie, welcome to the forums. To answer your question:

Even if the tower shows 7 range it is basically just 5 range too, as the center of the tower is the point where the 7 tile radius is counted. As the building is 3x3 tiles, you 'use' two tiles for the tower itself and 5 range is applied for 'free' space.

The best defense against these is smart placement of traps or hoping that the defenders spawning from the stable will take care of lonely artillery.

Hello, thanks for the welcome.

Although your explanation is really detailed, I have seen many times my towers fall before 2 or 3 blows from bombards, and my towers not firing a single hit. In this case, if they were the same range(5) At least my towers must "defend" by throwing at least one shot. But no... I mean, Am im missing something? Maybe some cheaters on the way? Or just bad luck??

Hi Eddie, your towers will become much more useful to you as you progress in the game, hang in there.

Your best defence against bombards is ballista towers. Try to pair them with your catapults/ cannon to balance your defence. Your ballista should be the first kind of defence with the cannon behind it.

your best long range defense is the mortar/catapult, upgrading them 1st and use wall to limit access to them. After you kill their shooters with your catapults then your others defend troops can finish the bombards.
