I know a lot of people who are fed up with the current medal system, me included. You play for hours grinding one medal at a time and as soon as you disconnect, you lose 30 medals. It's frustrating, especially when you only get match ups worth 1 medal for like 200 battles in a row.
I would suggest revisiting the whole medal ladder. It's fine to lose medals on defense, but not to the point where you feel like you have wasted the last 3 hours of your life. The set back should always make you feel like you can catch up again, just like with losing resources. Otherwise people will just quit playing.
The best way would probably be to extend the number of leagues and create new ones at 3800/4400/5000 medals etc... Increase the number of medal gains, reduce the number of medal lost. People will keep playing if they can see that they are progressing. If you can earn more than one medal per battle even if you move the top league requirement up, it'll still be more interesting.
It doesn't matter that the target is moving as long as people can see themselves moving up. This doesn't change the fact that the top players will still be at the top. However, it gives more room for other people to still climb without having the feeling of continuously being set back to where they were 3 hours before.
Most people don't care about medals but once all your workers are busy for weeks, there is really nothing else to do in this game.
The lost medals in defense plus the no target found at higher medal range means that people don't even want to try and hunt for medals anymore. They go from peace treaty to peace treaty, upgrading a building for a week, and eventually will give up playing the game. I'm very close to that point...
I'm going to do a last push to reach the empire league but afterwards, I'll probably let go. The current system is not really enticing to keep me wasting more time on it.
