Enlightenment Base Layout Question

So I hit the Enlightenment Age about a week ago now, I chose StoneHenge, Notre Dame, and Angkor Wat as my wonders. My base currently is focused around having all 58 of my buildings touching the road network, which is giving me 8,370 gold per hour with my wonder bonus. I cant seem to figure out a base to make with multiple layers of walls that still allows me to fully utilize my road network. Of course when I am saving up food and gold it hurts to get attacked, but I am not sure how much of a difference it would even make, I feel like a player with max troops is gonna own me regardless right now until I get defenses maxed.

The primary means of obtaining resources is by attacking. 8,370 gold per hour is really nothing compared to what you can gain with a few troops in a few minutes. Jeopardising your defence and your resource storages for 100% roads increase (4,185 gold per hour) is not the best thing you could do. drop the roads and build a safer defence. Unless you don't play very often and just wanna sit back and collect loot. in that case drop in medals till you swim around iron age bases and your resources will be more than safe with a weak defence
