The time you think you're gonna crush a new and you aren't paying attention and the guys town center has artillery or a cannon and I aoe kills all your archers/riflemen in seconds so you lose. I can't be the only one this happens to haha

Agree, artillery splash damage on defence is totally broken.

Took me a while to realize this but I thinks it a great element to the game, especially for warbase donations...

I like the splash damage, too. It adds a tactical element to combat, especially in world war. First thing to consider is what strategy might help to get rid of those pesky cannons in the town center. That divides good players from the other ones.

It's been a pain in the neck recently. I will now carry a betrayal tactic. I don't see artillery on defence as a tactic. Hate to say it but it's simply too powerful with the splash damage.
