I just got my heavy tanks to Mk6 (but have never used them) and I'm wondering which of the two nations (German or Roman) is best for heavy tank attacks? I'm now British looking to change nations to shake things up. Also, from those with experience with heavy tanks are they viable for WorldWar attacks in your opinion or will I need to have a secondary composition just for WorldWar?

German. the 15% attack fury bonus is nice, especially if you also combo it with the brandenburg gate wonder and american coalition.

Im not as advanced as you but yeah is use some. Im german and my current army is 3 HTs (MK3), 4 Howitzers, 1 healing cart, 1 bazooka, 13 shooters and 8 infantry. for war i use aztec, american, and mongols when i go all in on offense. The tanks are always the last to die if i dont clear a base. Hopefully, some day I'll get to MK6 and finish the HT buffs in da vinci and can start clearing bases like the cold war 6 HT armies that steamroll my base every week or so. Looks fun!

I use the French nation and in war (and even MP) I always use 6 HT mk6, it's very effective even if I'm not german (I like the french for the faster training time, especially when I switch to raider+engineer combo to farm oil). But the most important thing with the HT strategy is to have well upgraded planes, my mk6 composition is only effective thanks to my 5 supersonic fighters supporting them during combat, especially to destroy the anti-tank guns.
And of course you should have brandenbourg gate, leonardo HT upgrades, and in war the coalitions which improve the performances of factory units.

Some people enjoy british with the HTs as well. The loot bonus is still worth a good bit. Recommend trying them out where you are before switching nations, HT raiding is a different experience and not everyone enjoys it.

I'm British and have adopted a HT attack. 4 HT Mk6, 1 APC Mk3, 3 Heavy Artillery, 20 RGJ Riflemen + 5 Supersonic Fighters Mk3. I never lose any HTs with this combo in either raiding or war. I do raiding with this combo anywhere from 400-1400 medals and do just fine with it, raiding back to back with virtually no losses and no tactics used.

I use this one in war and usually get times between 1:30-2:00. Works well with Impis, and the Shipyard tactics (Frontier Force Army and ROK Army) complement it nicely.

The main drawback is really the time. War attacks were sometimes a little faster with my previous combo but never as sure a thing as this combo is. Time really depends upon the cards used and the attack strategy used (3-4 corner fastest, of course). This one always results in 5* against CWA and AA bases and I have yet to lose a HT in war with it in the 2 months or so I've been using it.

I only use this on my main account (CWA). The other accounts (AA, GA, and IA) I don't use HTs.

I have maxed HTs and I play with all HT combo in MP and WW. I was Roman and now I'm German.

MP attack (raiding) looks like this: Choose a weaker base preferably with triggered traps. Deploy HTs all around the base, then snipe AT guns with your fighters as the HTs come close to them. Nothing can stop the HTs from destroying the base. You will have zero loses. Romans are slightly better then Germans in this scenario because they can field 7 HTs instead of 6, and they do not need to take care about Fury bonus management.

WW attack looks like this (considering though opponent): Deploy all HTs at one corner (the one that has less AT defenses), then Deploy TDs and generals in the second corner, then deploy auxliary force (Terra Cotta Army, Alliance Howitzers and shooters, Coalition troops) the the third corner (the one with more ATs and less mortars). Optionally you can deploy TTs in the fourth corner to get quicker destruction. As your forces come closer to the center, deploy blitzkrieg tactic, try to snipe any dangerous AT guns with your fighters, and place as many Decoy tactics as needed. Germans are much better then Romans in this scenario, because 6 HT in one group are sufficient (one more HT makes no difference), but all units (especially fighters) have Fury bonus (+15% damage), which makes an edge against well fortified opponent.
