I need more food and gold.

How do I increase my food and gold limits in my town.

You will need to build and upgrade your food and gold storage's. Click on the storage, and choose "upgrade".

As problematic said you will need to upgrade the storages. The gold storage are known as Market and the Food Storage are known as Mill.
Upgrading these will increase your Maximum limit to store your resources but sometimes you are no longer able to upgrade these buildings in which case you will need to advance to the next age by upgrading your town center and then you will have the ability to upgrade the mills and markets to increase the maximum limit of gold and food storage.

With that method Ron you will be waiting days and days just to get enough food to be able to upgrade 1 single thing and imagine trying to gain 300,000 to upgrade your barracks to only level 4. The loot is from raiding not the farm in my opinion. But whatever flows your boat my friend.
I can only try to guide you in the right path from my perspective, but i can not force you down a path.
