Iron age, can't exit nations screen, major dilemma over which nation

Im new to DomiNations as well as to the forums.

Earlier this week I've earned enough coins to upgrade my town center to Iron Age.

Unfortunately the game won't let me exit the 'choose your nation' screen so I can't go back to play the game with more time to decide. It's essentially forcing me to choose. I don't think this is a very efficient feature. Had I known this would have happened I wouldn't have clicked upgrade yet.

Since notifications have come up saying 'your peace treaty is expiring soon', does this mean that I will be stuck with this screen with the ability of other players to attack and loot me?? I need to find time to research the nations as I am very busy with my school/work, it's not like I can go on all day every day!

Does anyone know if there's a way I can exit this screen and resume my game?

Along with this I'm facing a major dilemma over which nation to choose. This is no small deal as players are stuck with the their chosen nation and it's features for a very long time until we reach medieval age and earn 600 - 1000 crowns.This is a major dilemma which everyone faces early in the game.

I understand that Roman, German and Japanese are most popular while Greek and Chinese are considered no-no.

As well as that, some Nations are aesthetically more appealing than others, which just makes things all the more dilemmamatic.

Advice would be much appreciated.

Japanese are the best in the beginning but they go down hill fast. Like so many I picked the Japanese to begin with then paid to change nations later. Currently I'm leaning toward the British as the best if I had it all to do over again. But in the end, you need to pick one now, hope for the best. If its not you can change later.

Early on you want nations that are strong and easy/cheap to retrain. Japanese, German, Romans fit the bill. If you want a good 'middle of the road' nation then Greeks or Chinese are good. British and Korean rifles only really come into their own when they get stronger, as in later ages. French is good all round nation if you like to play a lot.
If you want a good nation through all the ages I suggest German or French or British.
Don't worry so much about the unique units, early on you'll probably just be using footmen & raiders anyway.

I suggest you go Greeks, Japanese or Germans. It has nothing to do with me needing scrolls, silk and salt.

For much the same reason I'd love you to pick German, Greek, or Chinese.

But honestly that means almost no one high level uses German, Greek, Japanese, or Chinese. Which may tell you something.
