Is the Defensive-Farming Strategy viable?

By farming I mean resource production and holding it, not raiding others.

I am in medieval age. Is it viable to just produce, turtle up and have impenetrable defense?
I am tired of grinding for 1-2hrs raiding 20 people for avg 30k loot just to afford a decent upgrade (500k-700k required).
Would like to just play for max 1hr/day, mainly collecting and upgrading.

I have tried with <400 medals and STILL have gunpowder players come and crush me.
I have a doughnut resource protection base, sacrificing TC.

Complete turtle mode is impossible. I suppose the only way to play less and to be successful is gather as a turtle at low resource count below 200k for few days and pick a day to sprint to the 500k-700k.

Just look at the game encouragement:
1. Survived troops will return to base. KEEP RAIDING
2. Cheap as fk "Next" cost. KEEP RAIDING
3. Poor resource production. NEED RAIDING
4. Mines and trees timer collection. LOG IN MORE, bored after 30 seconds? MIGHT AS WELL RAIDING

Psychologically,
Once you reached 400K+ gold in store, which is close to 100K ppl can raid from you.
You are appearing just like a good looking busty porn star in front of them. They will not hesitate to deploy their junk all over your face and inside your base.
Nobody would care what they lost, they just want to get inside. You know? Grab that pair of Markets, even with a single dirty footman.

Physically,
Your base is being scouted by thousands of lifeless hunters everyday. No matter what base you are having, you are defending 4 sides equally. While people drop all their troops only need to open up one side to touch your resource. An experienced player from next age with a good mix of footman+horseman+ballista+archer+tactics will 100% steal your resource, it's just a matter of clearing your base or not.

Raid or Quit, that's how this game works.

No, there is always somebody that can beat your defenses. Saving and hanging on to like 600k+ resources is just open season for raiders.

So if I hear you folks correctly, the answer is no - you can never turtle and defend 100% in this game.
Therefore, strategy is to sprint to the next resource target by raiding x hrs, finding juicy bases (NEXT), having enough troops, rebuilding.
Hmm..... I have a real life :) so I can't be playing more than a 1hr session.
Don't know if I'll stick around this game much longer after the medieval age, when upgrades get to be so expensive....

Well, you can still have a life and stay in this game.

Find a girlfriend and let her raid for you when you are busy.
Take over yourself when she is busy.
Have a kid and teach him/her how to raid,
Let your and your gf's dad try on a different device see if they like it, so when you guys left they can do something. I know your moms probably not.
Buy an auto tapper that will keep you logged on when everyone is asleep.
So when you guys are having some family party, everyone will be sharing and talking about your game and thank you for bringing them such a master piece! What a beautiful life!

After all, don't forget to use out all your resources if you guys are going for a family trip.

Yes, you forgot to mention that if you lost resources and your TC somehow was not destoyed, you get attacked twice immidiatelly and loose 40% in total :) I may advise collecting and defending only 1 resource and spend the second and dropping medals when going for Smth. Big. Also, there should be a day in a week when you can play more that 1 hour and this is when using crowns for army speed ups is efficient. Turtle gameplay might be boring, tho

Base design is everything in this game. All you need is to not be the worst out of every 5 or 10, because the goal is to have whoever is scouting you to skip over to the next sucker.

Donut resource base is fine but only if you have the 10 extra walls so you can compartmentalize. Otherwise, you will just get rolled every time.

In my opinion, there are far better designs out there if you're looking to not lose a lot.

Try a solar system base! Doughnut bases are delicious! Seriously, you just beat your way through the weakest side, and enjoy the jelly-filled grand prize in the center! To get all the resources in my base, you'll either have to split your army 4 ways, or give me a 12 hour treaty! This cuts my losses significantly, though I still don't find turtling viable.

It it not possible to use passive farming in this game. I tried leaving 2M resources and went to sleep. The next day I woke up and my resources were around 1.2M. I was being attacked 18 times (My TC was in the middle and I have all Lvl 7 walls). There's no way I can recover from the farms and caravans.

So far, I just drop medals and raid actively. I feel that I can put down the game more often when I'm in Gunpowder now because things start to take like 2 to 3d to complete.

I still have my TC in the middle. I login occasionally to re-arm my traps.

try a lowest medal 200 and you will be raided lesser. but still you can never get 100% defending your reso so best thing is keep raiding and spend fast.

If your TC is in the middle, then how do you protect your resources? Everyone could dig a hole on the side and take some yum yum.

Tekkaman, first is that loosing 1/3 of resources and TC in the middle which falls 90% of all cases is not the worst scenario, caz you get peace treaty.

Doughnut can loose resources badly if attack went on resources and your opponent was not able to win, so you'll get multiple attacks. I also prefer TC in the center and defending 1 type of resource. Considering switching to Japan because of that.

Be patient. Start from cheap ones like traps and walls (if it is still less than 30k each for Med age player like you). Thins like towers are only 400k, which is not that hard. The defensive effect will slowly accumulate.

Some tips for defense if you happen not to know them all:
1. split your mills/markets in different cells, donut is not good because eventually there are only two layers of walls to protect all your resource. Your defense is gonna protect them all or lose them all. Multiple cells means you are able to protect part of them if your enemy is not strong enough.
2. Use the defensive blessing, especially the one boosts building health.
3. Join alliance. Ask for troops before you log off. They will come out from your TC to help you defense. (Surprisingly lots of people don't know this.)
4. Rearm your traps every time you log on. And look at the replay to deploy them in crucial locations. In current version, caltrops are very good if you put them beside the walls, because most players will use heavy cavalry to break walls and they will slow this process amazingly.

I am in late medieval. All the defensive buildings are maxed except I still miss one extra garrison in the lib. At the beginning of this age, I got looted just like you. But now, Medieval/Classical age player are hardly get any loot from me. I have seen Greek players using 12 heavy cavalry units and got nothing at all. Some of them can get one or two mills/markets, but they will lose all their troops as well. For Gunpower players attacking my base, if they don't use any tactics, even though they are able to get all my loot, they have to prepare for a great lost, which will force a lot of them to skip my base.

Well, now you have longer peace treaty and heavy cavalry are weaker, so I think passive player now will have a slightly better experience.

I didn't know the thing about donated troops coming to your defense - need to try that as every little bit helps.

I dropped to <400 medals thinking I'd be safe here but was quite surprised to be raided by a GUNPOWDER age player (what's he doing down in the slums?).
So.... it's true, there's no 100% sure-fire way to be safe from raids.
Someone is going to take something, maybe even everything.

Yes, with the latest change that weakens heavy cavs and increases peace treaty, maybe I can hold out a bit better.
Now if they'd only increase the production rates of farms and caravans......

I get most of my resources through raiding, so I don't mind giving back 10% if someone's willing to slaughter their whole army. If you like raiding, don't sweat getting raided. It's all part of the game.
