Does it make sense to upgrade all research before advancing to the next age? Currently, trying to decide if researching watch towers ch's 2-3 is worthwhile or not.

I would never upgrade anything else before town center. If you want the best way to win go throught the ages as fast as possible and upgrade just army and a few defensive buildings. You can upgrade the rest of buildings much more easily if you have strong army.

You don't have to get all of it but I would try to get most. I try to upgrade most everything before the town center. It may not be the fastest way but it certainly does make things a lot easier on you. You should join our alliance "Dominion Elite", in fact everyone is welcome.

actually both extremes (1. upgrading everything before advancing, and 2. rushing through ages as quick as possible) are a bad idea.
There is a balance. if you rush through ages you'll be exposed to the top players very quickly meaning it will be difficult to hoard resources (which you definitely will need to be doing from gp age onwards). Also you wont be able to attck weaker low level players as you can only raid players 2 ages below you.

I agree with Whatwhat, I see people in Gunpowder age who definitely rushed and I 100% them even though I am in the Medieval Age.
I suggest not to upgrade all research. Some research are useless. You can just research chapter 1 so that you can unlocked other research from the library. Just get important research like tower, catapult, mercenary etc. I also suggest not to rush Ages unless you are playing 24/7 and you do need need to defend your resources.

i'm in the medieval age with only a few defensive upgrades left.
i'd recommend rushing to classical and then staying there and maxing that. farming was shockingly easy there, so i'd cap everything.
i don't expect to finish all my library research at medieval. instead, i'm planning on staying medieval until i've upgraded all my walls (at least to the 90k level, possibly some to the 200k level) and finished all the critical library research (extra garrison, for example). there are, however, lots of library upgrades i don't care about (and probably never will). i'll upgrade all the food based library research until i'm done with defenses and walls.
that's my current plan, at least.
