How about make an event that will give bonus, boost, extra resource, etc only for certain nation ?, so when we have chinese new year, the game will give bonus only for player with chinese nation. You have the german reunification day and the game will give bonus only for player with german nation. And so on.

As long as every nation gets its day, and the events lasted only one or two days, I think this would be a nice idea.
