I was Roman until I went to Industrial then it was time to loot for oil even more so I went with French and have no regrets whatsoever. Better tanks, more alliance troops and of course faster training time. I'd say go with French.
French became good when Missile Silo was released which barely scratches their tanks.
British good up to Global. Much harder in multiple players if enemy has missile silo where you have to use tanks or waste tactics (which is not sustainable in MP)
Germans hit hard and bonus goes across all troops

What is your style of play? Why do you want to change?
Is there a troop you're partial to? Do you like shooters (Koreans, Brits)? Do you like tanks (Germans with victory boost; French/Greeks)?
Now is the time to think about your end game nation. I've played as German, Brits, French, Greek & Japanese.
Brits are the easiest to loot with imo. Germans are great fun if you like more control. Greeks/French are great if you like heavy cavalry/tanks bulldozing through bases. Though Greeks bonus is not so great compared to the others.
Also, a lot of people like Romans because the extra space give you an extra heavy tank in an all heavy tank army.

If you use almost only heavy tanks then Rome or Germans.
If you play the game in long sessions (a hour or more) on regular basis then go with French.
If you care too much about WW then Germans.
If you want to build your base as fast as possible at cost of efficiency then Chinese is your choice for extra worker
If neither of this true go with British.

It depends on your current troop research and playstyle. The best are Germans and British. You should choose if:
British:You only need to upgrade ranged infantry and artillery when advancing ages, leaving the oil for the Airplanes and Generals.
Germans: I think they're best at Atomic Age, but you'll have a ton of researches that require a lot of oil (4 bazooka upgrades, APC upgrade at library, university upgrades require oil), etc
So if you want the easy way to the top attack, go with British. If you're willing to farm millions of oil to have the strongest attack, Germans.

I would go French. Once you get the Pentagon wonder, along with a training blessing and a being French, you get no retrain time on Zeppelin Mk1. You can rebuild them instantly for 0 crowns and destroy bases. This only works for French so it is the most fun to play.
