Second factory in Global Age: what is it for?

i noticed that in GLOBAL AGE you can build a second factory. What does it add? Troop space? New tech?

Does it only bring troop space for those types of troops?

They don't add to troop space. Just give you the option to build 2 factory units at the same time.

Although, on defence, a HT will spawn when it is destroyed. If you did the right research for it.

About the defensive HT spawning:
1) Do you need to have a HT present (like general/castle)?
2) Does this only happen with the second factory, or also with the first factory?

You have to have researched level 4 of the Resistance technology for destroyed factories to spawn HTs.

Whether there are HTs present in your bunkers has no bearing on whether they spawn from destroyed Factories if you have the technology researched.

The type of HT that spawns is based on your highest-level bunker, like how the level of your TC defenders depends on your highest-level Garrison.

I am pretty sure I have seen HTs spawn from both factories when I have attacked advanced Global Age bases.
