Setting troops to spawn from your Stronghold

I've had it happen to me when attacking others, the Stronghold spawns huge numbers of troops in defence. How does this happen?

I assumed that prior to the defender being attacked, he's gone into his Stronghold and selected Tactics Armies, like the Heavy Vandal Army, or Republican Rifleman (up to the capacity of the Stronghold limit) and then waits to be attacked. I tried this in both Multiplayer and WW battles and it didn't work for me. When I was attacked, Tactics Armies that I selected just remained so, and nothing spawned from my Stronghold when attacked.

How then does it work?

troop cards have to be donated to your stronghold by another player.

Thanks for that. How does that physically happen? During WW prep day?

Yup. On the same tab that you donate troops on. There should be an option to donate to strongholds. Whatever troops get donated will be there for all attacks during that war.
