Should you take advantage of Instant advance to next age or not?

This is a big dilemma....

Do I wait for many days till I can instant advance to the next age or I go now and take advantage of the price cut offs for all ages till the end?

Here is my post from Summer for the ages 2018

That was my best decision so far. I went from global to cwa in one go and took advantage of the price cut offs. So I was able to double upgrade all the crucial buildings like armory, factories, airport etc.
That helped me a lot cause I was able to quickly max my offence.

Here is my plan for this Summer for the ages 2019.

By going Space Age sooner, I lose 15 days of upgrades BUT when the right time comes, I take advantage of Global/Atomic/CWA cut offs and will be able to finish more space age buildings AND factory/airport troops.

In the sccenario, where you just wait, then here is what you are gonna take advantage of...

As you can see, not many things....

My advice....
IF you already are max or near max in offence in the age you are in now, then go to the next age sooner and take advantage of the price cut offs all the way till the end of Summer for the ages.
IF you still have many troops unupgraded, especially in factory, then wait till the Instant advance to next age becomes available. Then use it.

I've very little to upgrade anymore. I'll upgrade the remaining generals and wait for new developments in the game. Go for it,Wrathchild_78. Try listening to wolf totem by The Hu while you're at it. .

Worker-hours remain the game's most valuable and rare resource generally; with this, it seems very difficult to justify any strategy that does NOT take advantage of an instant Town Center upgrade.

for IA->GA and higher i advise to crown the town center upgrade(and Im a f2p player). it requires so many workers that you will waste a lot of worker-hours just getting them together for it. and also it is the single most cost effective thing to upgrade in terms of worker-hours per crown. and also, worker-hours spent on next-age stuff is much more valuable than the same amount of worker-hours spent on catchup.

side note: higher age wonders also require many workers but the work time is divided into stages so crown efficiency is less than the tc upgrade. this would be the place to use building speedups.

wrathchild_78, TinSoldier updated his post after yours to clarify that SA instant town center and SA discounts begin on the same day. Maybe will save you 180 days of citizens time.

ok So If I understand correctly then the instant upgrade to SA takes place at exactly 12/8?

It's a week-long event, that begins on that day. I read it as: the instant upgrade to Space Age is available during the second week of Cold War which is also the first week of Space age (8/12-8/19). Ask Tin to be sure. I just wanted to make sure you saw his edit.

My usual plan is, I do short upgrades for first week, take the instant upgrade at second week, then crown my airstrip and factory. Then I continue taking the remaining discounts.

I'll be sending my global and industrial accounts to the next ages in the next few days after finishing the Sally Ride alliance gate researches. Don't get me wrong instant advance is nice but I'd rather have most of my infrastructure laid out well in advance to take advantage of the only thing that really matters with these Ages events: the oil discounts.

exactly my thought, hence I advise people to go to the next age a few weeks earlier

Advancing is very tempting but, I'm already struggling at CWA, advancing unprepared to Space Age could immediately lead my whole game to a disaster that could take months to surpass

Not entirely true. If you haven't finished most of your big oil upgrades from CWA and university then I would just stay in CWA. The Domination bonuses alone being drastically reduced really cuts down on your ability to gather oil and the handful of offensive upgrades haven't been worth much so far.

The domination bonuses and the penalty for hitting 2 ages down are very real things to consider, especially if you're already struggling in CWA. I was getting oil almost twice as fast before moving up. To be fair, I had finished Amelia, maxed heavy tanks in uni and had 8 fighters already. Thus far my only upgrades are heavy tanks mk. 8 and the silo, if you can count that (I don't).

On the other hand, does oil really matter when things take 16 days to upgrade and one is rarely attacked? You have roughly 6 weeks to consider that.

Yeah, how is going to space age any different than staying in CWA besides your ability to improve your offense? Same pool of both predators and prey. I wouldnt think the tiny hit in loot penalty would deter a SA from hitting a tempting CWA base.

I suppose its possible they could restrict SA attacks to only CWA and SA, but i wouldnt expect that till the next age comes out.

edit. interesting counterpoint from bootney.

The other counterpoint is if you are French. The 10% faster training times from the library stack on top of the training blessing reduction, meaning heavy tanks train in roughly 1:30, howitzers in about 37 seconds. Foot soldiers, if you just want to try swarm snipes, train in about 1.2 seconds. Pretty awesome, and the main reason yours truly bothered to move up.

Other than that Space Age has been a massive disappointment. Upgrades for what we have, a wonder choice, 4 new library chapters, and a lame and expensive 'offensive' (does it offend with its lameness or is it because one uses it to attack?) missile silo strike.

I'm sure the more senior Space cowboys have more to add, I'm just relating my experiences as someone who made the leap about a month ago.

I'd throw out all conditions and go Space Age ASAP for one single reason: the OP library... namely Archaeology and its 3-star artifacts that offers perpetual artifact creation. I'm not SA, and probably never will be, but seriously Archaeology is absolutely nuts.
