Is it worth considering acropolis in enlightenment age? Pyramids have served me well with the farming boost but i reckon i may be better off with the acropolis. Particularly in a war situation?

Acropolis is better in war and in defensive situations. Your troops spawn so fast if you have the library research complete. This is arguably the best wonder for this age. Looting would get you food much faster. Pyramids make you more lootable anyways. Why have a wonder to let people loot more from you? :)

Especially in later ages, pyramids cause a terrible design flaw (if you're going to use it how it's supposed to be used, right by all or nearly all of your farms) You're going to be extremely open to those raider attacks, where someone just spams raiders - you can enclose it in walls, but they're just going to use a wall miner AND you're wasting room for defences to be placed inside those walls. Thus, you literally become a more attractive target for raiding, since for the farming boost, as many farms as possible need to be in the same spot. Combine this with logging off for several hours, or even days, and you have people hitting you for up to 250k+ food (GA/EA) just because they can drop a few troops nearby those farms.

Besides, if compared to raiding, farms are extremely unattractive and slow. Acropolis is the only viable Bronze Age wonder.

Yes I'm going to build an Acropolis. A question... should i place it just outside my walls and close to a couple of garrisons? My stables and castle are inside walls with gates close by.

The issue with putting it inside your walls is that it's large, like most wonders, and that's why it can be somewhat annoying. You shouldn't make it easy to destroy, as its benefits don't stick around like Versailles do. Judging by most of the bases I can see from a quick Google search (these are late-age bases just like yours), it should go somewhere that you think it can have the maximum effect while also sticking around for as long as it can.

I've swapped pyramids for acropolis. Placed it near Versailles influencing 2 stables and 2 garrison and defensive stuff like Canon Redoubts near by.
