Which country are you using?
What was it now?
Why did you choose this nation?

started as Romans because I didn’t know which troops I would end up using later on in the game, but no matter which troops I use, Romans would be above average.

switched to Germans when barracks stopped increasing pop cap and also stopped the Roman bonus from increasing. same reasoning, no matter which troops I use, Germans would be above average.

and then the focus shifted to factory troops and Germans ended up being a wise choice.

I’ve been Japanese/Germans in Medieval and Gunpowder Age. The stronger foot troops are unequivocally the best unique unit for the period, insofar as you can stay at low medals (trying to medal climb at such low ages is frankly silly, anyway) and spam infantry to get as much loot as you want. The defensive boost of the Japanese is insignificant, and the decreased rally timer of the Germans, along with Teutonic Fury, can make your forces even more fearsome.

Those in my alliance who are at higher ages suggest Germans, as well, so I’m inclined to believe it’s almost universally the best nation, because Medieval is the first age you’ll be spending a substantial amount of time in, for what it’s worth.

In my opinion, british, chinese and korean nations are the strongest till global. Usually you´re using many shooters (often mixed with howis and healers) and take advantage of the nation bonus there. From atomic up the most fight with factory troops and dont need shooters anymore, from here the germans are the strongest.

My story:
- german till enlightment; I had no clue and chose germans cause its my homecountry
- british till atomic; the brit shooters were deadly in my army setup and I liked the loot bonus
- german till now (CWA); 15% more damage on planes, HT,Commandos and everything else is more than any other nation offers

Chinese is never a strong nation. Their archers are technically better against foot troops, but they’re worse than Korean and British rifles. The rifles-cannons-healers arrangement is no longer as strong as it used to be because of the rebalance, which made defence far stronger. For example, my 29-5-3 troop combination, which formerly five-starred almost any base that wasn’t maxed on defence, is no longer really relevant at GPA.

If you’re going to use a rifler nation, British is really your only option, but it’s wiser to go German irrespective of what specific stage of the game you’ve reached. Infantrymen are simply more useful than riflers before factory troops, which is an era that goes undermentioned here on these forums, but as a current GPA player, I can attest to the uselessness of riflers in Medieval and Gunpowder compared to foot soldiers.

I played as Chinese until the Industrial Age. The archers aren’t as good as the British ones, I agree, but still pretty useful, and I found the extra worker and the extra mercenary very handy. I switched to German when I stopped using barracks archers altogether.

raider spam works better than infantry spam for the stay-low-and-loot approach, so french would be best there.

* To maximize building speed - Chinese for extra worker (my choice)
* To maximize war results - German

Else...

If atomic and above:
* If you use factory army composition (commandos or heavy tanks) - German/Roman
* Default - British (but you should switch to factory troops... really)

If global and below:
* If prefer play in long sessions - French for huge training blessing boost
* Default - British for extra loot and ranged infantry efficiency

Overall I still think French is most versatile and best overall for a lot of styles.

Extra troops donation, in space age I’m getting 47 each time. My tanks hitpoints are almost as high as the my heavy tanks before I maxed it. That said I’m only using 2 fighters and 2 transports for most attacks anyways.
