I am fresh into the game, just entered Iron Age, I am reading things here that are related to much later ages and I realise I am veeery far from that. So, any tips, strategies for a newbie, I would be very grateful.

P.S. I looked into nations, and picked Koreans for their archers and the 10% looted resources refund. Hope I made the right choice.

Welcome to the forums, KniferX! :)

Sure, we'll all be happy to help you!

Some of these might help you.
Prioritize upgrading your offensive capabilities. Upgrade your barracks and blacksmith on priority. To do this, upgrade your mills, to be able to store the food required for the upgrades.
Once you upgrade your blacksmith, keep upgrading your troops. These don't require workers.
Upgrade your archers first (since it's your unique unit for your nation), followed by your infantry unit. Also, unlock the horseman unit. Raider upgrade can probably wait.
If you're at 35 troop capacity, try out an army of about 20 infantry and 15 shooters.
Keep attacking other bases, and gather food and gold. You might run into Enlightenment Age or Industrial Age bases too - if you find such a base, and if you find outlying farms, which aren't protected by towers or other defenses, don't hesitate to drop your infantry units to raid those farms and lose the entire infantry in the process. You'll have to retrain the infantry units, but, the potential to quickly fill up your mills is quite high.
Start paying attention to your base design. Place your town center outside the walls. Use your walls to create as many section (each enclosing about 4 buildings) as possible. Protect your mills, markets, and store house. Protect your catapult inside walls. Place as many towers as possible within these wall sections. Place your Command Post inside walls too.
Garrisons can be accommodated only if you have room left.

Start upgrading your towers and garrisons.

Once you've done this, you should be ready to move up to Classical Age.

Practice and perfect your attacks. Learn to use the rally capability effectively, and, as often as possible.

And, make sure that you've joined an active and a helpful alliance. Start participating in wars, if possible. The war loot from wars can also significantly help you in developing your base.

Hope this helps for a start. Feel free to ask questions as you play more, and we'll all be happy to help you!
Cheers and happy gaming! :)

Now is the best time to buy the starter pack if you want to advance quickly. Otherwise take your time and enjoy the game.

Great tips above :)
id also recommend trying to find combinations of troops that allow you to win pvp battles with minmimal retraining time to help achieve this use rallies as soon as they are available and learn to use them to avoid troop losses (with archer army use them to dodge an incoming catapult missing and destroy catapults)

also, use raider armies and search for high level bases that have tons of food and gold that is out in unprotected caravans and farms ( mills and markets are empty) , raiding these bases is by far the best way to quickly get this rsss u need to advance

good luck!

As others have said offense is significantly more important than defense, so start those upgrades first. Don't hesitate to upgrade walls either, as that is the #1 gold sink in the game and can be worked on while other buildings are upgrading as long as you leave 1 worker open.

I second the comment about searching for unprotected farms and caravans. If the mills and markets look empty, the loot you can steal is stored in their farms and caravans. I will scout multiple bases before I make my attack looking for empty mills/markets for a large loot value.

As others have said, focus on offense and max everything prior to upgrading to the next age. You need to have patience with this game and try not to rush your development.

Also, keep a few different base layouts depending on what your goal/play style is. I use all 3 base layouts you are provided. The first one is all about protecting my resources. The second is all about protecting my TC for medals (while I think medals are completely useless in this game), and my third is a hybrid layout where I try to protect both.

Have fun and welcome aboard!

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. :) I joined a good alliance, started raiding. I realise there is much more to advance in this game before getting to play for medals and victories. It's funny how much resources there is to get while raiding unprotected classical and medieval farms and caravans. I'm struggling with food overflow at the moment, nowhere to spend. Anyways, thanks again for the help, I see a great community here. :)
