Upgrading your castle/fort

Is it worth it past level 3? Patton at level 1 has half the HP of my level 10 Alexander - and only slightly better dps! Even Alexander at level 11 is looking good at this stage. I'm at level 147 in IA with all towers/troop buildings, etc, maxed out - just wanting to spend my 53k oil wisely. (leaning towards 1st choice air units - 2nd choice heavy tank buff)

Would like to hear from anyone who has upgraded fort to level 4 - was it worth it? Do you regret it?

It's definitely worth it. For one, the level 4 castle is not as easiliy taken out with sabotage and zeppelin (needs 2 attacks unless attacker has statue of liberty), for another Patton moves around in a tank right from the beginning which makes him slow so he doesn't run into a ballista quite that early.

If you have both bunkers and your airstrip and factory is fully is upgraded it makes sense.

It makes sense for wars. Contrary to regular battles, in war battles defense makes sense. And high level generals are a huge asset in wars for both attack and defense. And I advise to ignore the crying babies saying World wars sucks. They are short term thinkers. Obviously Wars Will be improved with leaderboard, challenges and so on.

But only then right? I've got those buildings done but I prefer to upgrade my air units before the fort.

Mmmm - I'm not a wars kinda guy. See, I play casually - about 15-30 mins a night - and sometimes not every night. I'm just happy to plod along and for that reason I'm seeing the fort as my last thing to upgrade. I still want to hear if a lvl 1 Patton is better than a lvl 10 Alexander. Anyone?

Appreciate all the feedback though.

I might as well use a tank for the same purpose. The tank doesn't use oil and, if dead, takes less time to rebuild than a damaged general. If partially damaged it doesn't need time rebuilding but a damaged general does.
Is there another upside to Patton I'm not seeing?

Ravenlord, the air units upgrades are tricky. If you are high in medals (2500+) you must be careful with your air units, as against maxed out IA bases they are hard to use frequently. If you are below 2000 medals the Mk1 versions are still fine, imho.

I'm at 1600 and the air units still get wiped out if they enter from the wrong side of town. The average tower or redoubt or castle can take down a Zep quite easily.
I hear what you're saying - although I still think the bi-plane could use the boost more than my land army - it's powerful enough with the other 4 generals for now. Patton will have to stay on my 'once everything else is done'' list.

Ravenlord, I am having the same dilemma, and can't see any benefit of upgrading the Castle (to level 6 for me). I'm with you in that I'd rather use that oil to upgrade my troops, planes, missle silo, or bunker. and none of the counter-arguments in this thread have convinced me that it would be a mistake. Essentially I would be trading 8 workers and 12 days, plus the opportunity to upgrade something else, for 8100 hit points. This trade is so one-sided I feel I must be overlooking something, but nobody has yet said what that might be, so until then, my Fort can stay at its current level indefinitely.

Upgrading your castle gets you access to better generals. At L8 you can unlock Zhukov which is one of the top generals in the game. I would not consider advice from someone who is still Industrial Age at L147 - the age when you should be pushing for Atomic to unlock even more offensive options.

The original post was six years ago. Hard to blame the guy for not going Atomic back then.

FelipeXIX, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to ignore the improvement of the generals. You should strive to have for attack the max lvl generals for your Age.
ps. The second big mistake is ignoring the university.
