This week we'd like to hear your thoughts on Mercenaries! Are they useful? Are they too expensive? Who doesn't love Mahouts? We look forward to your replies!

Does anyone read the italics?

I'd love to fund my mercenaries headcount with other ressource than trade good. I have 7 millions food sitting in my storage I can't spend. Mahouts are hungry, They should accept food as payment :)

Mercs are my back ups... I buy them with whatever trade goods I have left over when I buy my blessings. Then let them sit until I really need them to finish of a tc or FC or get the last bit of that oil refinery. What I'd like to see is the ability to choose which mercs to release. They all have a different purpose and to release them all at once is a waste when you have different kinds in the camp. Perhaps instead of being under one banner each kind can have their own slot in the available troop slider. You can still release each kind together but have the ability to retain the ones you don't need for the next battle.

Agreed, I would like the option to release on merc at a time instead of releasing all if I maxed out my merc camp.

I almost never hire the mercenary raiders or ranged infantry because they use precious leather and furs, respectively. Diamonds, cider, and metal I can more-or-less reliably get, but when all but two of my workers are busy with upgrades and my village fills with bears, boars, and stags, no small game spawns to let me get fur and leather from hunting. (What fur and leather I do get from raiding or the daily dock bonus I hoard for blessings.) When my workers finish and are free for an animal blessing binge, I will hire mercenary foot soldiers to use up the sudden glut of fur and leather once I have as much as I can store. Then I settle in for another upgrade cycle where I can't get them at all.

I like the idea of only releasing individual mercs that you need for a raid and keeping the others for next time. You can keep Jumbo or release back into the wild. I have never found that unit helpful. Mine always had a fascination with walls. Mercs are my back up plan when all others are struggling to take the goodies.

On a side issue (sorry Ironangel), what are the barcodes under trusted by Nexon about. Some have red, are they naughty marks or experience?

I've must have all your fur and leather - trade it for a diamond.

Mid-Enlightenment Age; the only mercenaries I keep around are 1-2 Ronin, using them only if there's a sneaky Forbidden City and only train them if I've gotten all defensive blessings already. In other words, they are pretty worthless and way too expensive (especially ones that cost diamonds, it is never worth it). Honestly, It seems to me the only players that use them consistantly are cheaters and big spenders.

Remove diamonds from their cost, lower the others a bit, and as others have already posted make them deployable individually instead of altogether. Then they might be efficient enough to used more often by players without hundreds of thousands of crowns on hand.

I also agree with others that the mercs are expensive to hire too, I rather save the trade goods for blessings.

Eliminate merc camp, turn it into another training camp and allow Mercs to be summoned using the training camp interface. That way we still maintain the "1-click" process of hiring mercs and we get the extra training space. Once mercs are hired they gather at the alliance gate to keep them seperate from regular troops(or better yet, use the alliance gate to summon mercs) . The extra space will help train troops faster which can be helpful if/when we get alliance wars.

Yes, good idea. It would be nice to have another barrack so we can train troops faster.

I echo prior comments ,,,

1) Too expensive
2) Need a way to deploy mercenaries on demand (not all at once)
3) Time quest for mercenaries is RIDICULOUS at current costs!

You r asking the right questions as if u know the problem
1-no they r not so useful compared to the huge amount of trade goods i have to pay for a single use of them, and moreover they never become useful unless u get full army of mercenaries which consumes almost all ur trade goods for just a single use
2-yea they r extremely expensive, i would rather use my trade goods for blessings than spending them on mercs, plus why should i pay diamonds for extra cavalry (horse or elephant) and again for a single use
3 i dont love mahouts cuz these cowards let my squishy mercs (soldiers and archers) deploy first and get wrecked while they should be deployed first cuz they r the FRICKIN TANKS and by the time the mahouts spawn, if i choose a hot spot to deploy them, all my other mercs are dead

I suggest u reduce the price or offer mercs for food or gold, cancel the diamond requirment cuz its not worth it, add option to deploy separate types of mercs and add new cannon mercs (those definitely worth diamonds)

I agree with the many good suggestions here. I have found that my mercs are the last troops I ever release, and I hardly ever use them due to the large cost of trade goods that are more useful in purchasing blessings. So here are my suggestions (some that echo those already posted) 1. Make them available by spending food as opposed to trade goods. 2. Have them released one type at a time, instead of all at once, Those troops have somewhat different purposes, so the onslaught of all at once rarely accomplishes attack goals. 3. Have them available for Alliance donations, so people can trade them along with other types of troops.

I want those mad max fury road tanks in my regular Arsenal.

I use them as backup when I get overwhelmed.

too expensive
uncontrollable

It would be a complete different ballgame if trade goods could be bought with food

I almost never use them, because they are too weak for the price. Mahout destroyed one garrison, before it got killed at a endless try to smash a single wall. Sometimes i send out the mercs when my regular troops are in real trouble. But that is just pure desperation because i know, the mercs never win a battle alone.
