Lol, no Parmenion, I've done many, many attacks and it is random. Out of my stats you'll see. I get most of my diamonds from TC, and not so much the storehouse. Also frequently get cider from storehouse.

For interest sake had a look at my own logs. On defence had a couple of 3 diamond losses, but since I'm usually maxed with diamonds it's bearable I suppose. On offence - out of 49 attacks I made on my logg: 29 x zero diamonds (59%) 11 x 1 diamond (22%) 7 x 2 diamonds (14%) 1 x 3 diamonds (2%) 1...

Had AW, changed to Versailles. Diamonds maxed out all the time, currently have 27/18 cider and 19/18 diamonds thanks to boat that add above and beyond store max. Diamonds available in most attacks at higher medal level. Boat almost always have diamonds, which is nice, apart from this morning...
