Anti-Cavalry Ideas

I just witnessed the might of the newly buff-ed Cavalry today and I can understand why so many players are so upset. However, instead of petitioning for them to be nerf-ed, I would like to suggest a few anti-cavalry ideas to make things more interesting.

1) Ditches/Trenches - You can introduce this as a trap to knock the rider off the horse. If you want to make things more interesting, you can make the rider recover and continue to battle as a foot soldier. I'm thinking that maybe this trap can be upgraded to contain oil where after the cavalry unit falls into it, there will be fire that burns them.

2) Rope lines - Another trap that is almost similar to the Ambush trap but you actually allow players to place two of them in a line. When cavalry units try to cross the line, these traps are activated with soldiers appearing and pulling a rope across, effectively knocking the cavalry units off the ground. Again, you can consider allowing the rider to continue as a foot soldier.

3) Spring trap - (Stolen idea from CoC), you can allow us to have spring traps that springs off a maximum of 3 or 4 cavalry units per trap.

I hope you will consider them. :)

These are some good ideas, especially when you consider that the only anti horse defense is the ballista Maybe you can also place hidden spikes on the ground that are angled that severely impair horse men speed and damage them. I knife they were used in major battles to counter horse charges so that'll be a nice addition. Moreover they could be upgraded to anti tank spikes when the industrial age comes to counter tanks

Cavalry would simply leap over a ditch or trench . A horse at full gallop would easily clear those . Cavalry can even leap over small walls. Now, on the other hand, if you mean something like a Most, that's something else is entirely. However, Moats are both enormously expensive, and a huge drain on both manpower and resources. Traditionally, they are only used to help protect Defensive Hard Points, like Castles and Towers. That would be a good potential upgrade for both. IN-GAME, I have seen both spike traps and caltrops activated by enemy cavalry. The real problem with defending against cavalry is that historically, heavily armed horse bound raiders were enormously effective in attacks on a typical farming community. This game reflects that fact.

What about Stakes? They were used to stop horses to go through using psychological impact on them, They said that a horse wouldn't simply go through a wall of spikes like presented bayonets.

Not sure what all this anti cav thing is all about. Everyone's cavalry got a buff, which is a good thing. Cav was such an under powered unit which almost no one used. For 6 troop spaces it was a total waste of resources. Atleast now they can provide sorely needed to an overall defensive game.
