Any tips and tricks for newbies?

I just started playing a couple days ago and I'm enjoying myself thus far. Just joined an alliance and about to start a war tomorrow.

Please let me know any tips or tricks or good to know info being new to the game.

I'm thinking of writing a guide for my alliance but here's some thoughts.

1. don't upgrade TC until you have maxed out troops and defence (and walls ideally)
2. don't upgrade economy buildings, this game is about raiding.
3. Do focus on attacking strategy and your style, if you picked British then use their unique troops (black watch rifles) as part of your troop mix.
4. Leave your TC outside walls for the occasional free shield.
5. When not in war, just use raiders for gathering loot, you will have more than you can spend.
6. spend crowns on extra house, builders are key to this game.

Upgrading an economy building does help in instances where you really need the resources to either
i) Build a decimated troop with no resources in bank.
ii) Grinding out the last bit of resources for an upgrade (instead of waiting for troops to rebuild)
iii) Be a target in raiding hopefully leaving your mills, markets untouched by buying some time.
iv) Have more HP. Don't even know if it is material

How do I buy houses with crowns?

Logically, it's impossible to buy houses with crowns. Unless you are short on gold, then you can use crowns to buy the missing amount of it.
