Archers not targeting defenders

My ranged infantry are supposed to target defending infantry once they are in range right? Well my crossbowmen continue to shoot at buildings even while being stabbed by defenders and it's quite frustrating

I've seen in this forum a few people complain about this. My experience however is that archers do always retarget towards defenders so I haven't seen the problem myself? Do crossbowmen never retarget or does this only happen sometimes?

This has happened to me too. I'm quite new to the game so I wasn't sure if this was supposed to happen but I'm struggling to understand the benefit of training troops that are strong against defenders when they don't target them. I failed an attack because they were shooting at buildings and barely weakening them while they were getting destroyed by defending troops.

Well, at first they usually do their job, but after the first wave is defeated, things get a bit chaotic, and they sometimes don't even acknowledge the defenders until half of my army is gone.
