How do you ban troublemakers from an alliance?

Have previously had someone stirring up trouble in our alliance. Fortunately he left and began his own alliance but has just come back and is posting in our chat. Can I stop him from doing that apart from being online all the time to boot him when he joins again?

I thought you were talking about me for a second there. :) Set your alliance to invite only and don't let him in.

smart! !
But will it be valid if the guy is such a dick that he bookmarks your alliance so he can regularly visit you to big mouth?

I have a feeling that an alliance change of name will result in the bookmark disappearing. Just don't quote me on that ... I could be wrong

Invitation only would stop the alliance receiving random new recruits - when and if the new recruit issue is fixed.

I like the idea of a new name...but one member is currently friends with the troublemaker so information would undoubtedly be shared. Former members also search for our alliance and they wont find us either if we have a new name. Thats why I was wondering if there was a way to block particular players from your alliance.

On another note - what is the purpose of sharing a player ID number? Is that legit? I have seen the warning not to share with unknown people but within the alliance?

Think of your player ID as sacred as your PIN for your credit card.
Hackers have used players IDs to cause trouble and alter bases in the past. You should not be sharing this number in public or in your alliance.

Ok, suspect friend of the player has now left the alliance. Earlier today he was asking for player IDs. I asked why he wanted them and got no answer ....
I try to protect my guys and they are a pretty loyal bunch. Do I suspect this person of cheating ? He attributed his rise through the ranks to rum, ie getting drunk and spending? If not are my team players at risk?

I actually lost all my bookmarks the first few times I tried it, contacted CS and now they seem to be staying just fine. But yes, I can imagine bookmarks could foil an attempt at avoiding someone by changing the alliance name...I doubt that you lose the bookmark if the name changes, but maybe I'm wrong.

Customer service suggest changing settings to invitation only, but I'm concerned that option would stop any random new members. They will consider the issue of kicked members being able to rejoin the same alliance. So there remains vigilance, changing to invitation only or changing alliance name.

I sugguest you change it temporarily to invite only until next release. Not that you are getting new members at the moment. Looks like they done the same thing. Just make sure you let me back in. :)

Why can't you just "kick" the problem out?... we do it all the time when people don't play nice or with our values

No problem kicking them but they can get in quite a bit of rubbish on chat before they are recognised and kicked - and ther's currently the little problem of kicked players being able to rejoin after 24hrs.
