The best thing about upgrading to Factory3 is you can then do Factory4 and make the old geezer quest go away and get 4 crowns.

I don't think it is really worth it. You would probably be better served by upgrading something else.

HT makes sense for wars in an army like 4 HT, 6 howies (3 + 3 donated) and reste rifle. 4 airplanes, mix of sabotage/betrayal for the tactics. You can roll over virtually any base. Mercenaries and generals help achieving the 50% destruction Within a minute.

Im uprading to Lvl 3 as we speak.. cause I use the Gats/MG's, I want the heavy machinegunners. Yeah a lot dont like them and their AI is years under the richter scale but when they do connect they own ass, really.
