After seeing maxed IA base after maxed IA base - it's so tiny! :) And the mills and markets max at 161,000!

I had a base like that once - one the more pleasant and balanced aspect of this game is how bases slowly transform and morph into the monsters of later ages without any noticible sudden jump.

Anyway, as you rightly pointed out, mils and markets inside, TC outside and whatever that building is in the top corner, next to the storehouse. Close up the walls, try segment it a bit more.

You could connect the roads/buildings a bit better to get free gold (not much, but better than zero)

And advance to Classical as soon as your army is maxed.

Don't worry about medals until Gunpowder/Enlightenment

Just recently hit IA. Haven't got any of the fancy buildings yet... Still saving the oil! Hence my refinery in the middle. Keeping 6 villagers for bear hunting so upgrading walls with surplus gold. Wow does that take time!

Don't forget to max out your farms and caravans, then log off for a day or so. Thanks in advance :)

It makes them easy targets for raiders so obviously ignore that 'advice' and collect from them regularly. Don't forget, more resources can be stolen from the caravans and farms than from the markets and mills.

Thanks Parmenion 😊. I did wonder about that. Thought I must be missing something...

Hi, I made this Gunpowder Age layout for farming. My aim here is to focus on protecting the gold, your feedback would be appreciated.

Hey everyone! Here's my classical base.. I haven't attacked anyone yet and have (somehow) avoided being attacked myself.. Therefore I am unaware on how the AI will react to my defenses and general layout.. Will the northern buildings prevent armies from going straight to the south? Can troops bypass my buildings and get to my towers? Thanks everyone! ^_^ http://i.imgur.com/CAODMpV.jpg

If you haven't seen any Youtube videos you will be in for a bit of a surprise/shock when you do get attacked.

Basically any attacker can steamroller straight through your base as it stands - you'll only lose a bit of gold/food, other than that it'll be like nothing happened.

Start beefing up your barracks, blacksmith & army troops and get attacking to gain the resources to upgrade the rest.

Go watch some YouTube videos, BambooCoC has a beginners series so will cover Classical

I agree with Eddie mate, defenses won't start prevailing until late Medieval Age so my advice is to rush your town center while doing your best to keep the barracks and blacksmith updated. If you need fast exp for the level requirement, upgrade your roads.

You saved alot it seems ;) quite good walls for GP. I still suggest to defend even exposed TC a bit, but in general it is good

Love the aesthetics of the first one. Curious as to how it fares on the defensive though...

This is my first design that does not implement roads. I'm not real sure how I feel about it yet, but I do like how all the buildings are closer to the defensive towers. Every building is pretty much within range of a mortar.... which is pretty neat. I guess we'll find out once this treaty is up =)

Yeah, I had a lot of free time during my summer break. I would want to defend the TC but at 6x6, it just takes way too much space for me.

I guess I tend to put my buildings together by type. I also use the paper clip thing to attach full size images.

Try the paper clip option on the right hand side of the text editor area. Then select the size you want.

A few tips:
Extra barracks help out.
If possible, upgrade your walls as high as possible. No need to wall in houses or farms or offence, unless it's for decorating a base,
