This is my base as I near the end of the Gunpowder Age. It has been a solid layout that has worked at limiting how much loot is stolen and I usually take 100 - 300K loot each time I attack so upgrading everything hasn't been a problem. All walls are level 8 and gates are level 9. I prefer to upgrade everything before advancing.

I know. I have since placed the market in the middle chamber where the stable was and upgraded it just enough to upgrade to the Enlightenment Age (started advancing today). I like the layout and didn't want the extra mill and market to get in the way but with the extra wall in the EA I will change the layout anyway. I haven't needed the 3rd mill and market for upgrades in the GA anyway.

Here's another IA layout I've conjured up.

Where are your other barracks? Fighting with only 20 troops must be slow going.

It looks like it could do pretty well. I would swap out the middle redoubt with the south mortar tho.

Quite a good walls, so greeks arent that poor as they pretend to look like even at 1000 medals? ))) this layout somehow looks incomplete to me, but those cannon tower is scary ))) mine are still in progress

Dude I got that same feeling the following day. Woke up, made my coffee, went outside to have a smoke & get on (this has become my morning ritual since I started playing haha), looked at my base & thought I was missing a few buildings. I wasn't obviously, just looks that way. Maybe because of the roads on both sides of the fort? Idk....

Funny story behind the low medal count actually. Another member of my alliance & I were both sitting right around 2200 when we thought it would be a fun little game to see who could go from the very bottom (300 or 400 can't remember) to 1800 the quickest. This picture was taken in that time frame, & it actually won the little duel for me too. Thanks to the exposed mill & market, I'd get raided for those then the player would end it resulting in a win and crap ton of medals for me =)

The anti-tank cannons are awesome Redgar, those are the only one of my defensive buildings to be IA level (the rest are GP heading for EA), last one just actually finished a couple hours ago woot woot. Definitely recommend getting those bad boys in the works my friend.

A few days ago I decided to start climbing on medals so created a new layout that I thought suitable. I've had mixed success and whilst some players rush to take out the TC with raiders, leaving me with most of my loot, others totally crush my base, as can be seen in the defence log below. It has got me wondering whether it's better to again protect my loot and put the TC outside of the walls so players can get a quick win but it reduces the chance of being crushed. What are your thoughts?

Your map looks solid how does it do in defence ? Only thing I find is that you aren't able to use Kremlin properly , and no fast creation of troops by your another wonder Acropolis , your defensive buildings are far away from it .

make multiple compartments, because once your walls are breached it will be easy for your opponent to level all your buildings.

Parmenion, are those level 5 walls? If so, you need to upgrade those, otherwise too easy to punch a hole in D and get to TC

Those are level 9 walls -- see the black stripe at the bottom?

It made me sad to upgrade to those from the much more intimidating-looking level 8 walls because they look so much like the level 5 ones.

Yeah, they're level 9 and 10 walls. I'm in IA now and my layout has totally changed.

There are too many high level bases being posted. No advice for newbies. Heres my IrA one. Im about to update to CA so I'll finish out the walls that are currently uncovered.
