right now when a 'target that' happens it doesn't let go until that target is destroyed ... so a unit will run past better targets to get to the one he first targetted, like running along a wall to a door, and then there's a great building to blow up right next to the door .. but he runs back along the wall to the original target.

i'm sure there are standard algorithms for improving this; check for retarget regularly, or better randomly?
i can see a performance hit, but this has to be a standard problem in these types of games.

Players design their bases to take advantage of the current behavior. I do not support a change.

This is the biggest nonsensical excuse given. a) Players don't design every element of their base considering every tiny little behavior, and even if they did b) if a better system came along most players will be happy to redesign their base to take advantage of the new behavior.

Better AI (including retargetting) would effectively be a rebalance in favor of offense. I think most people would enjoy the game better in the long run if they did it, but there will be lots of screaming in the meantime.

That side, I am 100% in favor of this. I HATE seeing my troops behave that stupidly.

OK, maybe you are right for regular bases, but many players take advantage of the current behavior for their war bases. At the higher levels you often see maze-like designs.

Nexon is trying to rebalance in favor of defense, because 5 stars are too easy to achieve. I happen to agree with that policy, because it makes protecting my resources easier. But we are all entitled to our own opinion, so if the majority wants this change I will accept it and adapt. In the meantime, I will argue against.
