With the new Revolution option to change nations, I think one can use the following strategy:

1. Start with Greeks because they build things faster and cheaper.

2. Change to desired nation when everything is maxed-out.

What do you guys think? Workable?

Well it kind of makes sense. But the decreased build times on Greeks is so negligible that I can't see it making a difference.

The partial build-reimbursement is worthwhile though. IIRC you get 5% back with every upgrade... Over the course of a run, that would add up.

Agree with Whatwhat. Greeks unique ability to reduce construction time is negligible (15mins at Classical and +5min by new age).
However, the 5% return on construction or upgrade cost is sweet.
Greeks + Notre Dame and then a switch to another nation and another wonder later in the game can be useful.

I started with Greeks for this exact reason. I'm playing since a week and got to classical, and their companions are so ridiculously overpowered that I'm having second thoughts. I wanted to switch to Japanese in medieval or later but the Greek unique troops are IMO the best cavalry in the game. Even if the chevalier have more hit points, the companions have higher dmg which allows them to destroy defensive buildings faster and therefore take less dmg from them. I imagine the French need backup troops to catch up with them and help destroying stuff, while my companions just go in and wreck everything, the infantry and archers clean up from way behind. With 6 royal companions (lvl 2 troops) I am able to destroy a pretty maxed medieval base with minimal casualties. For anything classical and below, 4 will be enough and not a single one will die. I very rarely have to train new soldiers after a battle, most of the time I just non stop farm until I get the resources I need for my next upgrade. I really think that they need to be balanced, it's not that I'm complaining, especially that I play them, but in my opinion they should strictly be tanks and not be able to deliver so much dmg. In clash of clans we have giants that are very similar to the cavalry in this game, but they have way less dmg and you need to use a lot of them to make any difference. The reduced construction time is actually pretty good if you're an active player. Most of the time I set alarms to properly take advantage of the ability and I think it saved me decent amount of hours in total. I'm the kind of player that maxes everything before advancing to the new age so it really helps me. The resource savings are actually what I think is useless, the amount is so low that you never feel any difference. Even if it adds up in time it's not something of much use. If you play Greeks until you get to enlightenment it would probably mean the resources from one raid.
ur obviously putting thought into ur game thats good. ur new to the game so i can see how u came to ur conclusions....when it comes to greeks the resource savings has value because when stuff costs 5mil gold to upgrade 5% or whatever the greeks save is still noticeable....on the flip side when town center takes 7 days to upgrade, and regular buildings take 4 days 30 mins early completion IF and its an annoying if....ur online to finish it early. is rather sleep thru the night than save 30 mins of build time. sometimes u wont have the 4 million food for the next upgrade and ur still farming for it when ur building finishes. so that greek ability sucks. their cav are awesome. basically same stats as french. trade a little bit of attack for a little life too small to make a difference. but cav will get nerfed eventually so enjoy it while u can

This is a good idea. The Greek troops are really powerful, so attacking won't be a problem. After maxing your stuff out, you could switch to Romans or Japanese since they are basically the two best nations for medals and attacking. The German rally isn't that useful, and it is glitched a little, Chinese's special troops don't do enough damage(But they can do the glitch when they out range the defenses), British's loot bonus isn't enough, and the longbowmen are sort of useless with the tower patch and the troop glitch. French.... well..... the improved training time wouldn't be the biggest deal. The more health with the horsemen units will be cut down quickly with the Ballista towers and traps. So yeah.
