Please help me settle a silly debate and comment on your interpretation of the map layout - which way is north? I look forward to your responses and finally putting topic to bed. Also if Nexon has pointed this out somewhere please let me know...THANKS!

Yes of course but there is an ongoing debate about hemispheres / shadows and which way the map is actually laid out - thank you for your comment btw.

The directions I've always used is that since North is always up on a map, Northwest is the alliance gate, Northeast is the embassy, Southeast is the dock, Southwest is the side with nothing.

It's none of those. Airport runway markings tell you the degrees, so it plainly says the line between the alliance gate and the dock is at 58 degrees, so North from the map centre is somewhere near the cliff face of the left.

If the Alliance Gate was north the runway would say 0, if the top pointy bit of the map was North, the runway would say 315. BHG are very, very careful in getting numbers and accuracy correct.

Lol, I dont think nexon has the 58 to inform us of the 58 degree parallel, we're not some sort of geological explorers or something LOL. Ive always gone by the top is north, the right is east, the left is west and lower end is south. Simple that way me old mate.

Not the 58th parallel, just 58deg. North is 0 degrees, 180 is South, etc.

That what the numbers on runways mean. I do have a pilots licence you know :)

Hahah thats what I mean Ed, youre way ahead of us average joe players, I dont think nexon has put the 58d on there for that reason. In fact Ive found with 3 fighters loaded, my 58 sign isnt there anymore.

Yeah, hopefully we just go by that. Top of screen is north, right is east and the rest accordingly. Sorry fighter pilot Ed :D

Sorry, but runway numbers are the first 2 digits of the direction in degrees, so 27 means west. 58 is a nonsensical runway marking, since it would mean 580 degrees.

the most likely orientation is (assuming BHG made the compass directions the sides of the map rather than the corners, and that bases are in the northern hemisphere) Alliance Gate = North, River = south. The other option is Embassy = south.

Looking at the shadow from a redoubt, it is pointing somewhere between the mountain and the Alliance gate, but more in the direction of the gate. It is also quite a short shadow, suggesting sun is fairly high in the sky and it is close to noon. If the redoubt were a sundial, it would be reading around 10:30 am, and the river must be south.

The other possibility (Embassy = south) would mean that it is about 4:30 pm, but then the shadow would be much longer.
