If this is too scary than limit it to Industrial and below.

More people will continue to play if they can reach Industrial in a reasonable time frame; same is probably true up to Atomic but is less obvious. Get folks hooked on Industrial, in the very least, as Industrial is far more fun than previous ages.

The current times made sense long ago when, say, Industrial was the maximum age... but that time is over.

Follow Clash of Clans lead on this; they cut times as more levels were added.

Yes, and make university research take less and cost more. As a current Gunpowder player, I’d be extremely excited to quick-reach max Enlightenment and enter Industrial.
