In this video you can see
- Infantry defenders and cavalry defenders attack my troops over walls. The ranged attack from the cavalry defenders caused some of my cavalries to get out of the walled compartment to retaliate, and subsequently diverted to a separate target (tower to the right)
- At around ~0:17, you can see one of my cavalries moving through the walls to get to the tower on the bottom right.
- From ~0:18 until the end of the video, pay close attention to the movement of the blue cavalries. They seemed to have lost their minds.
- At around ~0:23, you can clearly see the cavalry at the top right corner attacking an enemy over a distance of 3-4 units.
There's clearly something wrong with how troops on both sides engage each other, in addition to the ranged attack issue.

In this video you can see that instead of moving forward to engage the enemy defenders in melee battle, two cavalries move backwards until they are at a "correct" distance (about 3-4 units away) before they launch ranged attack on the enemy.

In this video, the cavalry defenders launch a ranged attack (distance of 2 or 3) on one of the cavalries attacking the catapult. All 3 cavalries move from the side of the catapult to the front of the town center to retaliate within melee range. However upon reaching the cavalry defenders, one of the cavalries turn back and move towards the side of catapult again. Upon reaching there, the cavalry then turns around and lands a hit on one of the defenders at a distance of 3 units.

Two infantry defenders attack and kill a cavalry at a distance of 3 units.

While two of the cavalries engage the defender in melee range, the other one actually moves away until he finds the "correct" range (3 unit distance I think).
p/s: Even the two cavalries show buggy behavior. Notice how they don't attack as soon as they move close enough to the defender (at around 0:03). Instead both of them move past the defender before turning around to attack (at around 0:05).

A cavalry and an enemy cavalry fight each other at a distance. Another cavalry moves away from an infantry defender - out of melee range - before turning around to attack at a range of 2-3.

This video shows multiple instances of melee units exhibiting this ranged attack bug - melee units moving away from their opponent until they arrive at a "correct" distance to launch their ranged attack.
As you can tell from this video, the effect is disastrous. The units spend so much time adjusting and re-adjusting their attacking distance with respect to their opponent that they get gradually worn down by the defensive buildings.

The cavalry on top has to move around to get to the "correct" distance for his ranged attack against the defenders.

Here it's mainly the 3 red cavalries that are using ranged attack against the blue cavalries. Note also that the infantry defenders are attacking over walls, which should not be possible.
