Small Historical Improvements and suggestions

Hello, I have always been a big history buff, and there are a few small details in the game that should be addressed.

Here are a few small changes the devs could make that would make it more accurate and pleasing to many
1. Rename the musketeers as "riflemen" or "skirmishers". The term musketeer suggests line infantry, which are heavy infantry, while the musketeers in game are clearly light infantry. Rifles were in existence at the time and were issued to light infantrymen, who were expected not to face off cavalry charges and to fight in lines, but to skirmish the enemy and perform guerrilla warfare (comparable to the archers and crossbowmen of the Medieval era). Fusilers could also be generalized into "line infantry", as fusiliers are only one type of line infantry.
2. Change the Junkers of Germany to the Freikorps or Grenadiers. Junkers were noblemen. Not foot soldiers. Junkers led men on horseback as officers. Also it bothers me a bit that the unit in game wears a breastplate. In the 18th century breastplates were reserved for heavy cavalry only. Here is an image of Prussian (German) Grenadiers, considered some of the finest at the time

And of the freikorps

clearly no breastplates.
If the Junkers do get replaced by the Freikorps it would add on to the "sacking Rome" pattern ( in a way) that the description of the German units always talks about. During the Battle of Dresden, the Freikorps went out of control and started to sack the city.
3. The early landschneckt should be wielding a halberd as well, instead of a primitive looking axe. I believe the Landscneckt rarely or even never used battle axes.
4. The Asians were never noted for using crossbows (except the Chinese), so maybe instead of having crossbowmen for Japan, have "Expert Archers" or "Elite Archers".
5. The Chinese "Fire Dragons" should be clad in Chinese brigandine armor such as the following

6. The raider cavalry should look different for different cultures, they look very European, even for the Asians. They should also look different depending on era, because dragoons look like

rather than being members of the Assassins in Assassin's Creed.
7. Many buildings still look European, such as the storehouse, and I think they should also appear accordingly to the cultures
8. Pikemen and Halberdiers shouldn't look like knights only dismounted, pikemen of the medieval era, assuming they're professional troops and not peasant levy, do not wear great helms but instead any other form of helmet, mostly the kettle hat, sometimes even a cloth hat.

Troops from the Renaissance, the halberdiers, would wear even less armor, usually only a breastplate

As for suggestions, I suggest that if another Civilization is to be added, there should be a Civilization, better yet more than one, from Mesoamerica (such as the Aztecs), the Middle East (the Ottoman Empire or Egypt), Africa (Zulus) or India (Mughals), because there are already 5 European cultures and 2 from East Asia. This would add a lot more diversity into the game.

I also propose a new artillery unit which functions somewhat like the catapult. A counterpart to the Ballista (the one you train), there could be an onager or a trebuchet which targets enemy infantry, and has splash damage. It can go from onager (or trebuchet), bombard (rename the current one falconet or culverin), howitzer, and in the future, mortar, rocket artillery, etc. They would do moderate damage to buildings, probably half of or a third of what the Ballistics and its successors do.

I know most of these suggestions won't affect gameplay, but they would satisfy many players like me, and also draw a lot of people into the game (people looking for a much more realistic alternative to Clash of Clans). Any feedback would be welcome as well. Thank you all for reading lol

You really know your stuff! Lots of detail and make total sense. Hope they implement these changes, (If they ever get around to the hundreds of other player suggestions the devs never seem to pay attention to D:)

I was thinking on adding the onagers before, but didn't appeal to anyone. The musketeers should be Voltiguers for France and Grenzers for Rome. The Fusiliers should be Line Infantry or Some other names you can think of. Cuirassiers should be changed to France not the other nations, for the first thing I onow, France has the 1er Currassier Regiment for parades. Hissars should be for Britain and the rest. Lastly, swords for other nations other than Japan, and Japan to be given spears.

Many countries actually had hussars and currassiers though, so I think it's fine the way it is, except how the French hussars wear breastplates in game lol

Nice post peenerz -- are you by any chance a fan of Europa Universalis IV or the Total War series? Both have fantastic attention to detail in terms of historical character and balance attributes. Having played both series for _many_ years, pretty much anything else feels akin to Disney, though AOE 3 and Cossacks! did a fairly decent job of capturing many of the details you describe above...

Haha yeah, I've played Empire Total War, Age of Empires 3, and a lot of other similar games, but I also just happen to be a big fan of history
