As bad as the bazooka tower is, not all of this game is bad, so:

Awesome job on the Janissary barracks! Best event building so far imo. Janissaries are fun, balanced and useful, both on offense and defense. A slightly stronger melee unit with a slightly higher troop space is exactly what this game was missing. I'm going to miss my barracks when it expires.

I'm keeping mine, but glad to see that they're useful for when I do end up deciding to use them. Do you have any tips as to how to deploy them - like I would shooters/infantry, or should they be put out after other troops?

I think that the best event troop was the Red Baron - as an EA player, I don't really have experience with planes so it was cool to be able to strategise how I would play with them before I even entered IA.

Lol I ended up totally wasting my Red Baron when I had one... I was in EA back then too and had no clue how to use it, I got it killed very fast

As to how to use Janissaries: like you would use normal heavy infantry, pretty much. They attack quite slowly but hit hard, so dropping a few next to a building usually means it explodes right away. They have no problem killing enemy horses or tanks and don't die to mortar or redoubt fire because of higher HP, but are vulnerable to towers and of course to cannon towers / anti-tank guns.

They don't seem that great to me.

They've got twice the HP and twice the DPS of Heavy Infantry, but take up 3 Troop Space. They also take 7 times longer to train, that's without considering you can train 3 Heavy Infantry at once which means I can train 21 Heavy Infantry in the time it takes to train a single Janissary. The building itself will be good in war if you have defensive coalitions, but i'll doubt i'll train any for attacks.

Oh sure, they're not throw-away units suitable for mass retraining. If you are getting them killed and need to retrain fast for the next attack, normal infantry are the better choice indeed.

I enjoyed the 5 troops space. Never actually trained any. A GOOD one was the camel stable. Best stuff ever.

I don't know why but for some reason the janissaries on defence were able to survive two of my strike fighters mk2 and kill all of my unprotected field howitzers. Never really made sense to me as their damage should be way higher than their health

It's because strike fighters don't do bonus damage against them as they're not cavalry. If they also got a Maori coaliton boost (which is doubled on them) then what you describe makes sense.

Ahh yep, you are correct now that I've looked deeper into it. It was a normal PvP attack with no blessings active but I've been mistaking the stat for "Damage against defenders" as including any and all defenders, not just tanks.
That 4000 or so damage just seemed too low to be taking out enemy tanks in one pass so I didn't realise it is the final multiplied amount. I assumed that the 200 or so damage was against buildings.

i disagree, more defenders that can't be killed by fighters = this game is getting worse in favor of defense
forest defenders of war coalitions are not killed by fighters too specially if the coals are lvl 6
stronghold defenders as elephant archers are not killed by fighters too
heavy tanks won't get killed by 4 max lvl fighters if defender hp bonus coalition is active and attacker doesn't have statue of Liberty
what's the point of fighters now if they don't kill the most serious defenders?
add to this the hp n rf in last update and their stupid AI, everyone is getting rid of them in favor of transporters

and defenders are becoming an overwhelming force with more usefulness than other defense aspects
