Stupid Units

I bring archers when I attack to kill the defending units, but sometimes they are stupid and ignore the defenders. This allows the defenders to freely kill my cannons and supply carts without resistance. I tried dropping the general to save them, but nope, he ignores the defenders as well. I also tried using the rally to get the units to regroup, but nope, they still just ignore the defenders to go attack some useless building while the defenders freely kill the cannons and supply carts. This happens all the time and it seems kind of random so I never know if this is going to be the battle I wipe from the AI being stupid. I'm getting a little tired of this "bug" to be honest.
