training costs totally disproportional!

so a barracks tank unit (IA) costs 6.000 Food. On general you get about 200.000 for with a single attack. thats 3% retrain cost for a tank unit from a normal single attack. The factory tank costs 900 Oil. you can be lucky when you get 1.000 oil from a single attack, usually its even less. maximum is like 3.000 oil. So a factory tank costs 80-90% !! retrain cost from a normal single attack.

I dont mind if the factory tanks are more expensive then barracks tanks because they undisputably are better, but this is ridicolous. should be like 100 max 200 oil IMHO still leaving it at 5 times the retrain cost of a factory tank. What yout think?

You need to find better targets than 200k. Dont forget hopefully your troops will survive your attack,so your retrain cost is 0.

200k is alright if you're at low medals (he's IA so he can easily get bad EA bases) and your losses will be almost nothing, meaning less than 10 shooters, no howies/medics usually. Just depends on how much you play.

ah the pains of being IA. I remember it well. You are in the game rut and need to advance ages. My loot in AA routinely is 500 to 700k with 3 to 4k oil and the occassional holy grail haul of a million with 8k oil all with minimal losses amounting to basically constant raiding.

Factor in your training costs before you attack and make sure you your loot is double that cost. As for factory tanks I don’t think they are worth it to use in MP battles because of training costs and time. For that troop space you can have 2 tanks plus shooters for a loot less training time and cost. I would think about switching from the factory tanks if you’re only making your training costs back

Tiggo 1840 oil. but i don't use heavy tanks or any other exoensive units in multiplayer. that is where your problem is. over reliance on units with a high cost. The only expsensive item i use is strike fighters losing 2600k oil when a death trap is hit once in awhile.

well you expect a free ride with highly destructive units. hence the high cost to train in order to balance the game. otherwise everybody hits with zookas and HTs

Tiggo , if you're complaining about the Mk1 then you don't want to know about the Mk5! :D
1840 oil, not counting all the oil to upgrade the HTs and factory to get Mk5.
Essentially use your other troops to protect them (planes or shooters) and you'll bring them home more often.

Ya but if you’re not getting the loot to cover your training costs then you need to change what you use so you’re not loosing everything to training. I get that the high costs you should get more out of it but if you can’t find the loot to cover it then it’s not worth using

Please don't waste your Heavy Tanks on bases with 1k oil unless you're pretty sure they'll end up alive! Apart from oil costs there is very long time to retrain them!

PS Don't underestimate the power of heavy cavalry (barracks tanks), especially the unique nations' ones, they're a lot faster, more hitpoints per troop capacity and have preference to target defenses which is good at times.

I totally disagree... as usual... :)

I run 2 heavy tanks with shooter and siege combo. I frequently make consecutive attacks on weak Enlightenment and Industrial bases, earning 300-500k food/gold and 1k oil per attack, losing a couple shooters and maybe an artillery if I’m unlucky. My worst loss out of my latest 10 or so attacks was when I lost a heavy tank to stupid AI. Heavy tanks are well worth it when it comes to the most bang for your buck, you should be able to go 5+ attacks without retraining them. Just gotta play your battles smart and pick your fights wisely.

Even when I did use an all-barracks army, before I upgraded my factory, I had no problem at all... Oh no! 100k food to retrain? I totally don’t get 3-5 times that in a single raid...

Yeah I wouldn't be unhappy with 200k. I always go for the cheap and fast training troops as the bulk of my army.

This.
There's a reason the heaviest, toughest SOB tank costs the most. Maybe, if you're having trouble bringing them back alive, don't blame the tanks, take a look at what protection you're providing for them.
Maybe you need to tweak your army combo or keep the HTs in closer to the shooters? Or pick bases with weaker AT guns?

Heavy Tank doing well on destructing base with weak defense.
You should learn how to bring HT back and forget about its cost.

I put 1HT+ 2APC as meat shield, no more than once per day to retrain HT.

And I found the real expensive one is Bazooka, easily get killed, and really expensive retraining cost (and l relative long training time)

Anyone who suggests regular tanks as a replacement for Heavy Tank has zero experience with HT and does not understand the gameplay mechanic of HT. A regular tank is just a cheap meat shield, it barely has any DPS and has no splash damage. A heavy tank can destroy enemy heroes, troops, other tanks and most defenses, and it comes back home 90% of the time. The only time HT does not come home is if the entire army gets overwhelmed or it gets stuck digging itself out of a wall while 2 anti-tank guns are shooting at it.

I don’t use HT. No need too. I was offering a solution to the cost of the HT. Sone people like it some don’t same as all troops but from their original post it seems the cost is to high for them so I was offering up a solution.

While there are many ways to use a unit, the most successful usage of heavy tanks have been those troop compositions involving all heavy tanks, which get deployed around the periphery of the base in a spread out manner, and, they eat the base outside in, with no use of rally. Heal is the preferred tactic used with such compositions, and planes are primarily used to suppress or destroy the anti tank guns.
Of course, this requires the researching of splash damage to the heavy tanks at the library prior to this usage.
The library research for reduction in troop space capacity by 1 also helps.
And, having the Brandenburg Gate as the Industrial Age wonder also helps a lot.
Another library chapter that helps is the one which makes Heavy Tanks attack 15% faster (under Warfare).
And, people typically make sure they destroy all of the defensive buildings, so that the army comes back intact. Of course, this is a high risk approach, and might result in a costly and a long drawn retraining period if one loses the entire army because an odd defensive building still survived on the base.

For hybrid armies involving shooters and siege units, the barrack tanks are better suited to act as meat shields.

The primary difference comes down to this, as melheor said:
In a hybrid army, the primary role of barrack tanks is to act as meat shields and protect the vulnerable units from mortar fire; while the primary damage dealers happen to be the siege units.
In an all heavy tank army, the heavy tanks act as the primary damage dealers.

When one mishmashes the two approaches, the results can be quite mixed. Of course, some might pull it off, but, they just might do even better by aligning with one of these two general directions.

Hope this helps!

Cheers and happy gaming! :)
