Value of Progression

As all DomiNations’ players know, progress in the game has value. That value can be calculated with crowns. The recent devaluation of crowns and player progress is what I’ll be calculating and comparing for you today.

There is a formula that has been passed around for a while that somewhat accurately calculates the value of crowns vs hours. The formula is y=5.27x+202.2, y being crowns and x being hours. This formula roughly applies to upgrades that take longer than 24 hours to complete.

Let’s be naive and assume that the average upgrade takes nine days to complete and that four upgrades can be done at the same time. Applying this into the formula (1340.52=5.27(216)+202.2) we’ll get a crown cost of 1,341 crowns (rounded up).

Next, we’ll look at the price of crowns for those nine days in the hands of different players who made use of the recent discount for the crowns vs players who have to pay full price (Android in the US) for crowns. We’ll use the $20 package for crowns as that was the one discounted. Doing so, we’ll then calculate the value of progress for 30 days for each of the two groups of players.

Discounted Value of Progress
$0.99 price/ 2400 crowns = $0.0004125 per crown
$0.0004125 per crown x 1341 crowns = $0.5531625 per 9 day upgrade
$0.5531625 per 9 day upgrade x 4 upgrades at the same time = $2.21265
$2.21265/ 9 days = $0.24585 per day
$0.24585 per day x 30 days = $7.38 value of discounted progression for one month (rounded)

Regular Value of Progress
$19.99/ 2400 crowns = $0.0083291667 per crown
$0.0083291667 per crown x 1341 crowns = $11.1694125447 per 9 day upgrade
$11.1694125447 per 9 day upgrade x 4 upgrades at the same time = $44.6776501788
$44.6776501788/ 9 days = $4.9641833532 per day
$4.9641833532 per day x 30 days = $148.93 value of regular progression for one month (rounded)

As you can see, the difference in the value of one month of progression between the two groups of players is quite large ($7.38 discounted vs $148.93 regular). Before anyone argues crowns sales, I’ll explain a little on that matter. During a crown sale, crowns are advertised for a reasonable amount of time and the value of crowns are reduced for all players, meaning that the value of progress remains the same for all players at that time. Obviously, something must be done about this. BHG and NexonM, we're all still waiting to hear from you.

Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that there are sometimes different offers to different players. One big example in my mind is that with the CWA event, iOS players and Android players were offered different troop tactics for both rewards and purchase. Android users could not buy the KA-25 helicopter and iOS players couldn't get the flamethrower tank. Does that really matter, and is that fair? Probably not, but the KA-25 is pretty effective, and I've still never been offered the unit.

There are also numerous other bugs that Nexon has taken no action to rectify and benefited only some players. There was the night witch bug, the troop tactic bug, the CWA infinite present bug, and perhaps the biggest one was the university bug, which some players got huge leads in research for free. Nothing was ever done about any of those.

Reminds me of an issue many many years in a MMORPG called Maplestory, I’m sure everyone’s heard of it.

Long story short, there was an unintentional bug/glitch where people were able to continuously upgrade their weapon well beyond the intended limit. By the end of the day, most of the players were hitting for max damage and the very next day Nexon fixed the glitch and did a roll back for 24hrs making sure nobody had retained their OP weapons.

Many respondants on this thread who know me as a complaining troll, and you know who you are, I agree with now. When I stopped worrying about crown value/who buys crowns etc....or oil/gold/food loses or if a war is grossly mismatched or SHs are stuffed the game became so much more fun.

Having the time of my life in the game not caring about such trivial things. I only complain now about serious bugs...

Does anyone else never see crown sales? I used to get them. But since the one you get when moving to CWA I've had none which is annoying because I didn't even get that one since it was the biggest pack which I didn't want to buy...
