I am curious to the current consensus regarding these two wonders. I have Versailles and contemplate switching at times, but in the end I cannot justify Angkor over Versailles in any scenario.

The 10% HP bonus to all your troops, attacking and defending, as well as Alliance Gate troops, Mercs, and Generals makes it impossible for me to switch, yet I still consider it. lol

Your thoughts?

I believe the HP bonus of Versailles applies to barrack troops on attack only. But Versailles has one big advantage over Angkor Wat. The 40% slowdown of troops on defense is still in effect after destruction wheras Angkor Wat stops healing after destruction. So, If you go for Angkor Wat make sure to bury it deeply in your walls.

It depends on your playing style and your base as well as your troops. If you have powerful troops to defend your base ankor Wat is pretty awesome and adding entertainment value for replay as it's harder to kill your troops. I usually have bunch of tanks 4-9 plus 2 heavy tanks and 3 cannons defending my base Aladdin a bunch of shock infantries come out, even Brits swam have harder time mowing down my troops. That said, I have to protect that ankor Wat and it's a big a$$ wonder;)

I had Versailles as wel before switching it's good and your base set up is also important you need to put it in the kill zone. Both are major deterrent for sure as I'm usually move on when I see these 2 in a well placed spot, there are easier bases.

Abby, how do you have several tanks and cannons on defense? You could only get a couple from Aalliance.

I'm playing French nation industrial which give me 30 alliance troop space donation. I get 3 cannons and 3 archers from donations. All my stables are maxed which yield 2 tanks each which makes 6 tanks first run, 4 come out from the forest. And 2 st charmond tanks from command posts, plus 2 heavy tanks mk2 from bunkers. If some poor sap manage to trigger all it would be 12 tanks to start plus 3 cannons and 2 heavy tanks;)

I have researched in game and the 10% hp bonus applies to everything I listed in the OP, including Generals. Was a simple matter of viewing units hp without versailles, and with. This easily trumps angkor.

Versailles also works on both defence and offence.

About the Angkor Wat, just how much healing does it do in real terms, in people's in-game experience with defending one's base? Is it a game-changer? Will placing it in the centre and then putting all unit-producing buildings within reach make it much, much harder to tear through defending units?

Why people is so fond of the slowdown effect of Versailles ? The radius is quite small so I put it in a corner. Just count how many time you attack and how many time you defend each days and choose the wonder!

Angkot war is a problem if you leave it unatended, can easily mean difference between victory and defeat, but I think Versailles is by far better, Angkot could have been better when the generals healing combo, but now, +10% on all troops, I don't see a way Angkot war is better than that...

You have better army for attacking, and still isn't useless for defense, I see it far more clear that Versailles > Angkot, than the pick with Industrial wonders, for example.

I don't think they are. It's all about the +10% for both defence and attack. The slowdown is probably not taken into account even...

Agreed. The slow down is basically useless, while the 10% bonus HP for every single troop you have on both offense and defense spells game over for Angkor Wat. Just the 10% hp bonus on Generals alone is enough to forget about Angkor.

As has been pointed out, Versailles is attractive for it's 10% offensive/defensive hp bonus. The slowdown effect is just an added feature which can be effective- but just a hint, you're doing it wrong ;)

For those that have TC outside, the slowdown effect is quite good if you have it next to your TC. There is nothing better than having the attacking troops slowly take down my TC while my mortar, redoubt and cannon tower takes them out. Did I just make it hard for myself. :)

Angkor wat is not bad but Versailles is much better.

The former might be useful when the invading army is divided up (in the cool-down time between a rally to "point" them in a certain direction). I've used heavy cavalry (max level so actually tanks) and the opponent's units managed to heal faster than the damage I was able to make. But overall I would think that the bonus isn't that good when getting pummelled by an advancing army. And Anghor Wat doesn't give you anything on offence.

From having both I'd say Versailles is better as attack is more important than defence. After the Angkor Wat got nerfed the only bonus that seemed to make a difference was the daily trade goods for training blessings & mercs. I couldn't find any good layout to make the Angkor Wat effective on def & it was often taken out by troops or Zeppelin anyways. If the AOE was the same as the Colloseum then it would be worth it, otherwise think of the Angkor Wat as an economic building. 😂
