Versaille is Both. Angkor is amazing on defense. 2x lvl20 generals + other cav defenders is death for attackers. Also angkor looks amazing

I think choosing the right gunpowder age wonder should depend on your nation. For example, Versailles is great for nations like Greeks, French, and Romans whose troops have boosted health already. Taj Mahal is great for nations like Germans and British whose nation ability focuses on raids, and Angkor Wat for Japan, China, and probably French who focuses on defenses (especially Chinese since they produce more troops and maybe French because they can hold more troops in the alliance gate). Temple of Tikal I believe is bad in general.

Hello, Leaders! If it helps, the range on Angkor Wat is a little more than double the range on Versailles.

You should tell the team to increase the radius of Versailles. It is too tiny because the building is too big. ;)

Versailles gives 10%hp bonus to your troops, 40% slow effect and comes with a really small area of effect.

Angkor Wat heals 20%hp every 3 seconds, gives three trade goods per day (four if your in EA), and has a large area of effect.

I'm using Japanese, with Colosseum and Acropolis as my other wonders.

Guess what I went with. (Hint: It combos with Acropolis helping spawn quicker troops and Colosseum spawning defenders. Really handy when Generals hanging around.)

That's old data. Angkor Wat gives three trade goods per day. (Four if you're in Enlightenment Age.)

The health bonus from Versailles is for all troops or just the troops inside it's aoe? And by all troops I mean troops you use for attacks and troops defending your city.

The health bonus provides is only for troops inside it's aoe? Or it's for defensive troops and troops you use for attacks?

It's for both attack and defense troops. It's really useful for cavalry and brings the French cuirassier into comparable mahout stats. If you like attacking a lot it is better than Angkor. A lot of guys praise the healing possibility of angkor for generals, but as you are on AI for defense and all but the most inexperienced of attackers will just rally out of angkor's range to which the dumb generals follow you, it is easy to destroy any said generals. It does effectively buy your base time, but so does Versailles, and Versailes increases the healing amount of your attacking troops as healing is based on a percentage of your health. So you get a health boost and healing boost for attack troops with Versailles. As with each they are ineffective in inexperienced hands.

Versailles doesn't grant healing to your troops. It just gives you a fixed 10% boost, and that's it. Angkor Wat does the healing - 20% heal per 3 seconds.

Unless of course, you're talking about comboing it with supply carts during attacks, so I guess that makes sense.

Of course I'm talking about combining it, lol! You can't help but combo it when you use a healing cart, because the health bonus is like library research and stuck to your troops always. Naturally then because your supply carts heal a percentage of each troops total health the healing amount is increased, this is most noticeable on cavalry. Overall there are more benefits to Versailles over Angkor, and the lack of being able to control your defenders is a negative against Angkor, the general health bonus simply does not work out as it theoretically should unless your attacker is inexperienced. I have had no trouble against Angkor bases due to the aforementioned strategy, they are just slightly annoying like the coliseum.

I am debating the Versailles vs Angkor Wats myself and keep switching back and forth on decision. The idea of rallying outside the AOE of AngKor to lure defenders out is short lived unless you plan to attack only the outside. Once rally effect is over, the offensive units will do auto targeting which probably brings them back into the AngKor AOE. The strongest argument against AngKor that I can think of are:

1) Versailles effect is permanent with no AOE where AngKor effect only stays on as long as the wonder is up.
2) Versailles boost both defenders and attackers. AngKor is only for defenders.

I am leaning towards Versailles for the moment.

As a correction to my previous post, I noticed that the update brought a greater range to Versailles, it now has an AOE of 3. If you are inside the base and have no walls between you and Angkor you would obviously rally Angkor to destroy it in no time, it has only 3700hp or so this is not difficult. If there is a wall between the two buildings the only logical course is to rally outside. It matters not that your cavalry take off they do little to defenders! Your gattlin gunners and fusiliers will make short work of that general while your cavalry continue to distract the towers as they should. Not leaving the base is ludicrous! If you can't destroy general and Angkor bases you have the wrong army composition period. I have no prob with general/Angkor bases, multi wall base builds are much tougher and require Angkor to be outside or several of your defences/resources to be outside, it's a trade off. If you have difficulties with them you should try what has worked for me. Don't knock it until you try it, that's just hurting yourself. If you are just hypothesizing realize I am not. The troop health bonus and my carts, combined with this strategy take out these designs.
