This is an interesting idea, I never thought about stacking these two wonders. Does anyone know the relative probability of getting a 6hr vs 12hr vs 1 day speedup to compare the relative value here?

In my analysis, the Sydney Opera House is a better choice for most players though the secondary benefits may change the equation for some. It provides the most important resource, citizen days (CD) to work with. For example:

Sydney Opera House - provides 10 Citizen Days over a 10 day period (the extra citizen is worth 1 CD per day)
Atomium - provides a 10% discount on University research time. So to get 10 citizen days of value, you need to have at least 10 citizens in the university at all times for 9 days. It would have been 10 days, but the 10% gives you the 10 citizens back a day early so you get the 10 CDs of value to equal Sydney.

Obviously if you run more than 10 citizens at the University at all times, you are better off with Atomium or if you alternate by focusing on buildings with Sydney and Atomium for University by paying crowns to change wonders you may maximize the respective benefits.

If anyone knows the probability of getting each type of speed up from the Very Large Array it would be interesting to see if the doubling of speedups changes the outcome and selection.

Please post the info here is anyone knows (or has a rough feeling for each probability)

Never mind - I just finished the wonder (this post was timely) and I see that the probability is the same. I'm going to take a look and see if doubling the speedups received on average makes Atomium now more worthwhile than Sydney.

OK, so I wrapped up the quick analysis and the data is quite interesting. Without the Very Large Array, the Sydney Opera House is a much better choice, see below:

Sydney Opera House value in 1 year - 365 Citizen Days
Atomium is intrinsically worth 0 Citizen Days, so it needs to make those 365 Citizen Days up. So to match the 365 citizen days, a player has to have 10 Citizens assigned to the University for all 365 days of the year. If a player does that, Sydney and Atomium are basically equivalent in value. It is worth mentioning that assigning more than 10 year round to the University makes Atomium a better choice clearly.

This changes dramatically though if you pair Atomium with the Very Large Array, see below:

In one year (365 days) Very Large Array is worth 182 Citizen Days on average if a person only uses speed ups on things requiring 6 citizens. If you use your speedups on things requiring only 4 citizens it is worth 121 Citizen Days. I only use them when 6 citizens or more are involved so I will use the 182 number. So, we get the following:

Sydney + Very Large Array = 365+182 = 547 Citizen Days worth of value in 1 year
Atomium + Very Large Array = 0 + 182*2 = 364 Citizen Days in 1 year (Again Atomium intrinsically is worth 0 Citizen Days)

Doing the math, Atomium + Very Large Array now has to make up only 183 Citizen Days versus 365 (547-364). To match that, a player has to have only 5 citizens assigned to University research for 365 days to balance the wonders out.

This is a significant difference and one that most players would benefit from. I always have 5-10 citizens in the University. Prior to building the Very Large Array I was better off with Sydney. Now with this analysis I will be spending the crowns to flip the Sydney Opera House to Atomium. I lose appx 400 crowns in value (the cost to switch) and those I value at about 24 Citizen Days. Those will easily be made up when I have more than 5 people in the University over the coming months.

I hope this information helps others and if anyone has feedback on my calculations please let me know!
