Why is the general ignoring enemy defenders? Isn't "nearest enemy" their fav target?

Each general's description says that their favorite target is "nearest enemy" but they certainly don't behave that way.

As you can see from this video, after I deployed my general, he ignores the close-by defenders and heads straight towards the barracks. After the barracks is destroyed, he ignores the defenders once again and attacks the Acropolis instead.

General ignores the cavalry defender which is the nearest enemy and heads straight to the stable instead.

General ignores the infantry defenders and heads directly towards the Colosseum.

What's your complaints? I just watched my general attack a wall for a long period time and there was an opening 5 or 6 sections down. Oh and all the while the general was attacking the wall, it was getting beat on. Worthless.
