Catapults upgrade

Hi guys. I am currently on Medieval age at level 63ish... I didnot come to the forums until way late and realised that attack might be the fastest way around. I invested in resource harvesting technologies/defences most. Been attacked only twice and I attacked only once (to test).

My question is about the catapult upgrade. I have 3 level 2 catapults and it costs 700,000 gold to upgrade to level 3. Since I am only resource gathering to upgrade at this point, it takes quite a bit of time to get 700,000 gold to upgrade the catapults to level 3.
1. Will the cost remain at 700,000 if I skip the upgrade and go to Gunpowder age instead?
2. Upgrade catapults first and then go to Gunpowder age?

Thanks.

1) upgrade to level 3 will still cost 700K, but there will be one more level you can upgrade to(in gunpowder age). Costs go up pretty fast, 1600k, 4500k, 7000k for subsequent levels. This game is about attack, and it simply is not possible to proceed further by just harvesting. Please rethink your strategy.

2) you can do it either way; but if you find 700k high, it does not make sense to upgrade to gun power where costs are even higher.

With a proper attacking strategy you should be able to make 1000k gold in about an hours play (in late medieval).

the main way to get gold at that level is to raid higher age bases, you can often pull 200k or 300K gold from unguarded caravans at a GP or enlightenment base, just use your horse raiders. :)

Thanks guys.
I've experimented with a new account and changed my focus to raiding (I do full suicide runs) and target only resources. I've stolen about 30k gold+ and 30k wood+ from a levelb61 player being level 16....
It is definetely better to 'farm' this way as it costs me 12ish minutes to retrain my army (20 soldiers/10 archers)

How far can a good defence get you? :p That 63 account is a 'learning' account and is basically 'wasted' at this point I suppose. So let's try to maximise defenses and see where we get! hehe

My 2nd account has just gone to gunpowder, build raiders and go look for abandoned bases with farms/caravans full and usually unprotected. 90%+ of bases are abandoned - empty mills, markets, traps all sprung, no general, but have 250k of each to steal, just steal it with 6-10 raiders. Barracks will hold 20+ raiders. Build some more and go raiding with the remaining ones - with care you can raid non-stop until you have the necessary loot for an upgrade. Only hit bases with 200k+ up for grabs, press 'Next' until you find one, you can even hit EA & IA bases for 400K sometimes.

I don't even bother protecting mills and markets, usually pretty full, but my base looks occupied, so it is rare I get attacked. My defence log has been empty for a couple of weeks.

Basically the game is dead at this level, should have tumbleweed blowing around.

I think Eddie means that it is dead only from new players that quit at that level ... It is far from dead once you get past gunpowder ... I could be mistaken as to what he really means but that would be my observation

That would make sense since after so many attacks, they have not 'revenged' against me. Even the medieval player has not 'fought' back. I think you are right but once you get at medieval upgrading stuffs which is where the hardcore grinding starts to kick in to upgrade anything and the long wait times. This would mean that past this cap, there are pretty seasoned/die hard/pro level players past medieval stage and looting/attacking definetely becomes much harder and the possibility of getting attacked becomes a more real threat...

Absolutely .. I know dozens of players in the game through the forums alone .. And many of these players are advanced. The grind is real and medieval is when it starts to show. Kudos to you for breaking though to gunpowder(or about to)

Nearly but thanks though! :p Upgrading a bit more defenses, raiding a bit because once I go a level up, the level below me won't be available! (Which I've never done on this account) and then going to upgrade. Up to now everything has been built harvesting my 9? farms, about 7? caravans and trading my cider/fur? for gold/food!

What you need is a 3rd account - thats when the fun starts!

Dont abandon that 1st base - Enlightenment is a bit of a no man's land but if you perservere and get to Industrial it'll be worth it. Just keep raiding for now .... 150k should be your minimum while in Medieval - l really miss medieval (and gunpowder) .....

As soon as you level up to Gunpowder you will get slammed for weeks until you get your defences up to speed. I would do your catapults before stepping up at a bare minimum or you will have two upgrades to do and struggle for much longer. Everytime you raid you will lose it being raided. When you get to a new age you should be concentrating madly on upgrading your attacking not playing catch up upgrading your defence.

I was hit yesterday by a gunpowder player. The only attack so far I encontered. Made a vid of it and the defences held up pretty darn well. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Since this is my first account, I am still wanting to explore researching the defending part while still of course looting.
Here is the video.

That guy got more than he bargained for .. You have a tempting amount of food. He went for your farms first thinking easy money but no dice ... Nice defense.

The best way to avoid being raided too much is to constantly upgrade - empty your mills & markets!!

I am convinced that Gunpowder is nirvana. I may never leave. It will take a while to max my catapults.

By dead, I meant over the past 16months there have millions of downloads, millions have played until Classical/Medieval/GP then quit leaving all these bases abandoned - you just saddle up raiders and go find the first GP/EA abandoned base and raid their farms/caravans. You can easily tell, mills and markets are empty but there is 250/300k available to loot. Just press 'Next Match' until you find one.

16months ago on global release everybody was out attacking and raiding. Now it's like you're a survivor after the holocaust, just wander down to the abandoned supermarket and help yourself.
